My version of the Unitrade catalogue (a bit older but still 24 years after the issue date of this stamp) does not mention this. However, I would not toss it away, it could be something.
"Daughter wants to know if it should be disposed of...!?"
Well spotted, unnamed daughter!

The top edge of that postmark doesn’t line up precisely with the un-inked portion of the stamp’s image. I think the stamp is an error/freak/oddity or EFO, rare in the sense that there probably aren’t a lot of them but with little commercial value (CDN $10 maybe?). but good value as a collectable to complement an undamaged copy of the stamp.

WEIRD STAMP:
I remain unsure what to think about it - if anything...
I suspect "expert' in this field would not necessarily see this post to comment.
Perhaps there is someone to contact about this somewhere? I'll try to do some searching to see if anything comes up
Thanks!!

I think it's just a damaged stamp. I think. I took a screenshot of the stamp and messed about with different colour and contrast settings and came up with this:
Note how the "d" of "Canada" and the "9" of "39" extend slightly into the angled margin. I think that, somehow, the top of the stamp got itself bleached with something. But something else is weird. Note the "angled margin" shown at the bottom of this image:
It's almost as if the stamp was printed on two sheets of paper that got stuck together. Or something. But then, at the right end of the oval the "line" (or edge of a "top" sheet of paper?) looks ragged. 'Tis a puzzle!

It kind of looks like pieces of tape top and bottom took the ink off when removed, but did not thin the paper (at least not at the top). "Invisible Scotch tape" might do that whereas regular tape wouldn't.

I’ve got several printing and perforation errors that I have found over the years. One of the best ones is a U.S. 2014 butterfly non machinable surcharge missing the top coating of brown. Very obvious next to normal versions. I guess that these occur more often than we think and largely go unnoticed. None of the ones I have are mentioned in Scott’s so it is just up to what a collector will pay. They are fun to find.
Roy's comment is interesting. Looks to me like there's a good chance that the stamp, possibly with damaged or missing gum, might have been taped to an envelope, cancelled, and then removed from the envelope and released from the tape in an attempt to add it to a collection.

@Bobstamp: Interesting analysis! But while I am not Stamp expert, I do know a few things about computers - and imagery; the image I used was a JPG, which actually 'changes' the pixels colors as a way to 'compress' the image... So your analysis would be based on a false image, as JPG are approximations of the real thing (in my humble opinion) - To really play with contrast, I would need to produce a version of the image with a format that does not loses any details - like the PNG format (I usually use JPG to make image size smaller as to not bog-down the forums)
I could try to create a high-resolution of the stamp using the PNG format... if that would be of interest...
@roy: Tape? hmm I wasn't aware that stamps could be de-inked with tape - I do recall seeing stamps being secured by scotch tape in the past... and I might have done so in the past myself... Don't tell my kid :P :P :P
@joesm: Perhaps Kira could start a small album of these 'weird' stamps... Could be fun
Here are a couple of JPEG images of the other mis-aligned stamps found:
Did Canada Post run out of INK while printing this stamp?
