Spider Island is just a tiny part of the much larger Chicago Botanical Gardens. It is only accessible by a footbridge. There are no buildings there and certainly not a post office. Perhaps your envelope is from some other place also called Spider Island.
Hopefully this image will help

Cheryl, not sure that it helps and you have probably already been to the sites. Ruth Law was quite the adventurous lady aviator, and there is a spider island locally. Maybe it was some sort of publicity mail shot by the local tourist board or the Chicago Botanic Garden folks.

Whether Spider Island is inhabited or not, anyone can name their local post anything they wish! I get the chills just thinking of Spider Island, don't think I'd want to go there!
My most memorable experience was Antelope Island in the middle of the Great Salt Lake in Utah. There were no antelopes that we saw, but a herd of buffalo. On top of that there were gnats everywhere! Literally you couldn't inhale without getting a bug in your nose. As you drove across the island, it sounded like it was raining, but the noise was the millions of gnats you were hitting! We had to stay in the car with the windows up. Even when we just got out for a moment to take a photo, there would be gnats in the car!
So to this day my friends and I talk about our adventure on Bug Island!
Here is what ChatGPT says about it:

Roy Thankyou for the information on both topics. Spider Island makes me ask a question Is there a contact person for the post ? Just curious as I have a large local post collection as well as my own .. *Adoette*
I received an envelope with a postmark Spider Island Local Post
I`m assuming this is the Spider Island Botanical Gardens in Chicago
Would any member have any information on this post ? or on the Gardens ?
Thanks
Cheryl
