You want to see counterfeits being offered in droves at high prices, look at the offerings of Iranian stamps.
As far as Iranian o/p stamps are concerned, everyone should know that they are 90% counterfeits. But Cilicia looks as bad!
rrr..
The second "broken" C seems to be a very common flaw in this series of Cilicia O/P fakes...(so this batch pretty much came from the same shop), this is apart from the obvious size, spacing and misalignment of the letters, prevalent on most suspicious stamps.
According to The Serrane Guide, 100% of Cilicia overprints have been counterfeited.
With Iran, it is more than just the overprinted stamps. There are a large number of non-overprinted stamps that have been counterfeited as well.
I wouldn't pay $5 for that Columbus set. It's missing the $5 value!
Believe it or not, those Cicilia stamps may be genuine. The genuine overprints are quite sloppy. I have quite a few, and when I dig them out, I will post some images.
Been looking at a series of stamps of Cilicia, offered by seller "Docnik" on ebay. Was tempted by some, so I looked more carefully. There are SO MANY Counterfeits, that I now wonder if ANY are legit. And the bidding for some goes 100% above catalog! Can you imagine. Too late to alert the seller or Ebay, but it is truly scary. I bought a few yesterday, so I may get a chance to set the wheels in motion should they prove fakes..they looked ok then..but today's offerings are more than a bit suspect so I need to re-evaluate it all.
Some examples of obvious counterfeit overprints:
Some are so obvious, I don't know how anyone (I am thinking of the seller) would not know!
BEWARE OF O/P, especially of OLDER STAMPS from the MIDDLE EAST!
rrr...
And I am not even talking of Double Overprints, Inverted Overprints and Partial Overprints!
