The entire field of local posts is a big part of philately, and I would certainly like as much as you want to post on the subject.
Interested in the Bernard express...I am also on the hunt for the Grantham
s Island local stamps (Hall fundraising) please post any others that you may have info or stamps
One of my interests is Rattlesnake Island locals....
....I can post some pics of a few things I've found lately if anyone cares to see!
Have to wait til I get back home Sunday, though!
Randy
Yes please I have a few as well. Please share
Here's a couple Rattlesnake Island covers;
I didn't scan the reverse of the first cover, but it has the postmaster's signature on the back.
The album page shows the perfed and imperf varieties.
Neither cover is without flaws, but they are fun to look at!
Randy
Nice Collection!
Apparently (unverified) the first stamp issues were rectangular and were discouraged by the U.S. Post Office because they looked too much like U.S. stamps??
So, the next issues were triangular and the U.S. Post Office relented.
EDITED: I don't know if it is still available but there was a book on the subject
Local Post of Rattlesnake Island
What is the story of Rattlesnake? Was there an actual need to get mail to and from island dwellers?
Rattlesnake Island - one of a group of islands located in Lake Erie - is a privately owned island resort.
They have an agreement with the USPS to carry their mail to its inland destinations on the condition that it has normal US postage on it. They are required to deliver it to shore themselves. They also have an agreement to allow use of their own stamps on covers from the island, again, as long as it also has the required US postage as well.
This is an in-a-nutshell explanation, for lack of creating an entire article on the subject, which my typing skills do not allow....lol
Re: Rattlesnake Island - also note that US postage is affixed at the upper right corner and the Rattlesnake Island stamps are not, per USPS regulations.
Here's a Wikipedia link for those curious about the island:

Nelson those last locals that you posted...I am fixated and can't take my eyes off of the stamp with that lovely locomotive!
Funny - I was thinking someone would comment & I thought to place a caveat to the effect that railroaders considered it to be fictitious.
Looks a little like a Stephenson 0 4 2 without drive wheels.
"US postage is affixed at the upper right corner ... "
I'm interested.
