Now that time has passed and we seem to be looking for worthwhile subjects for US stamp issues, is it time to issue a commemorative stamp in honor of the fallen?

Yes, I know we did a semi-postal, but that was a fund-raiser.
I mean a regular issue stamp to honor the memory of friends and loved ones.
I for one would be for it, but not a 9/11 date of issue.

.....opinions?

I wouldn't be opposed to it per se but is there a precedent? I wouldn't want to give the hate mongers who perpetrated that act the satisfaction of causing us to issue a stamp.

Not our style. We don't commemorate death and destruction.

It took fifty years for a Pearl Harbor stamp, and then it's only mentioned as an event as part of the larger war, not as a commemoration of lives lost.

" We don't commemorate death and destruction"

...we don't?

Civil War...WWI....WWII....etc....
Is it only justifiable if we call it an "official war?"
Is not the war on terrorism also a war? Perhaps even a nobler war than the others?

(playing devil's advocate here, people)

Please continue.

re: WTC COMMEMORATIVE STAMP ISSUE -Is It Time?

Well... The 2016 New York World Stamp Show issue kinda threw the ball out there. I really would have liked this issue if it would've included a third (white) stamp. To release a pair of vertical stamps for an upcoming New York event was not well thought out. The background is just a white noise/spirograph kind of art, leaving this particular pair of stamps to bring to mind the twin towers and nothing else.

Funny...that was my first thought as well when I saw the vertical style.

Didn't think about the possibility of a 3rd white stamp, though - good point.

Those do evoke the twin towers. Was that by accident or design?

As I said, the Pearl Harbor stamp was issued to commemorate a historical event, not as you propose to "honor the memory of the fallen." The same is true of our other stamps for various wars and battles. Are the two intertwined? Perhaps. Is it a fine line? Perhaps.

Some relevant passages from the USPS Stamp subject selection criteria:

"Events of historical significance shall be considered for commemoration on anniversaries in multiples of 50 years.
...
The stamp program commemorates positive contributions to American life, history, and culture; therefore, disasters will not be commemorated on U.S. postage stamps or stationery."

I don't know what they were thinking when they gave the nod to this pair. I showed them to someone else, who said the stars in the circles made him think of the attacks on the twin towers, something I hadn't considered.

Weird things happen all the time -at least that's been my life's experience. Something that may be of interest to you is that I collect a little known CCG (Collectible Card Game) called Illuminati: New World Order. The cards below were printed in 1995.

And have you ever seen the first episode of The Lone Gunmen? You should Google that. Cool

Ahhhh, The Simpsons were such a positive contribution to culture....NOT.

...but I digress.

....maybe its time for the USPS to change their rule regarding disasters. Maybe they should realize they are not "commemorating the disaster", but rather remembering - and honoring - the fallen.

Really ?
The only way I can see anything reminiscent of the Trade Towers is if I back away from the screen and squint with my good eye.
No, slide further back.

"Texas Hold'em" stamps ?"

If someone hadn't mentioned 9-11 and suggested a connection I'd never have made any connection at all.

Well, I suppose it is 5:30 AM and I am on my fourth cup of coffee, so perhaps after I nap a little they might impress me as the finest artwork a nation of 325,000,000 can produce.
