An email to the American Airmail Society (AAMS) might yield an answer to that question;

For those that were wondering.... QUANTAS stands for Queensland and Northern Territory Ariel Service.

Hi Peter,
I'm involved with the Northern Philatelic Library. I just did a search on "flight covers" in our catalog and there is a lot in the library that might be resources that you can follow up on. Have a look at:

Thanks Randy, David, and Tim. Unfortunately, Tim, one has to be a member to view the catalog.
For the Australian first flight covers, check The Australian Air Mail Catalogue by Nelson Eustis and Tom Frommer.
If you have US first flight covers, check out the multi-volume American Air Mail Catalog.
Hi Peter,
No, you don't have to be a member to view the catalog, just to borrow the books. Give the catalog search a try, I may help you in finding the books that you are after.
Regards ... Tim
I have a small collection of first flight and other flight related covers, almost all British Commonwealth. Here are some examples; some of these come with letters from the airline company too (one of these letters shown).
My question is: Are there any catalogues or reference sources for these? I'd like to know about rarity, potential market value, and any classification system.
Thanks.
Peter
