Hello,

I have some B4 collection. Whats the best way to preserve them? The collection requires a lot of space.. whats the ideal way?

I appreciate your comments!

I put mine in Vario pages and then in binder. I do not have many though. I also print the Scott number beside the block on acid free type paper.

You can buy Stamp files (folders) with glassine interleaves for blocks, half and full sheets that take up very little space but viewing through glassine interleaves is problematic. For blocks only you can use number 107 and 108 dealer cards (red box cards).

re: Block of 4 Storage?

Here is a Hagner page in three parts: I use them for storing sheetlets and small miniature sheets as well as blocks such as you see here. In addition, each block has its own Lighthouse mount (I think 55m).

The twelve blocks were bought en bloc, so to speak (the other six are on the reverse) and the condition of the top two here is not brilliant (anyone who has a spare 12+6 should PM me now!), but this is a temporary storage, and all 12 will eventually be mounted on proper pages with appropriate information written up.

I agree that too much of this kind of thing will use up a lot of pages - I don't make a point of hunting 4-blks down, but I do have a nice 1945 FDR set in that format.

I too use Hagner sheets for just about everything. These are produced in strip formats 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8; single and double sided. These do not offer vertical divisions, unlike (I think) Vario stock sheets.

The dimensions of each Hagner strip format is stated on the package cover slip. The 3 strip version that Guthrum has shown, will also accommodate small miniature sheets and the 2 strip version for larger blocks and miniature sheets. The 1 strip version can take a very large block or piece, or even a largish cover in vertical format.

You can store blocks in glassine envelopes, Vario (or Hagner, etc.) sheets, or in mounts cut to size. I'm thinking mainly US plate blocks and mine are mostly in glassine envelopes in boxes at the moment, but some are in split-back mounts in the Harris US plate block album.
