I'd say a #64 with a CV of $1000 bought for $4 is a very good purchase unless the pulled perf takes out a huge chunk of the stamp!
I think Cheryl means that #64 is the $4 Jubilee, not that it was bought for $4.
Cheryl, I can only speak for the way a dealer would look at the value of the stamps. This "set" is never valued as a "set". Because of the tremendous variation of prices by condition of these stamps, and the high catalogue value of individual stamps, these are always valued as the sum of the individual stamps, not as a set valued according to the condition of the lowest common denominator. The latter would be true of a $20 set with some faulty stamps in it, but not of these -- at least not by any dealer who was considerate of your interests.

As someone who collects only Canada, I would love to have those two stamps, even as you describe them. As mentioned earlier, unless the pulled perf took more than the perf itself, they will only help. The Jubilee dollar values are part of about two dozen stamps I need to complete my collection through the year 1990. (I stopped collecting anything newer.)
Thankyou Roy and all others
I thought that each jubilee stamp would be valued individually. I have been watching several like my #64 jubilee and could get if for way under $100 Canadian.... I thought that I would take a chance...I usually don`t spend a lot for used stamps but I thought that it may be worth more than what I paid....
Cheryl: Enjoy your stamps.
We always sell cup-half-empty what we bought cup-half-full.

So true !!!! Stamps are for our enjoyment not for an investment...lol
A great set to have. My gem is the $3 one - REALLY hard to get your paws on that one.
I never really considered Roy's assessment that this set would be looked at individually rather than as a set but it makes sense since the higher value ones are really expensive and most average collectors don't have them in their collection.
I'd agree to say that any of the higher value ones (unless significantly damaged) would be a welcome addition to most collectors - a simple pulled perf or two wouldn't make a big difference.
Yes it looks like the three dollar and the five dollar jubilee will be on my wish list for a long time . I see a few on ebay but nothing my pocket book can afford...lol If I could find rejects or damaged stamps I might be able to give them a home.....
" ... a simple pulled perf or two wouldn't make a big difference. ... "
I pull their perfs just to tease them.
Cheryl - if you end up buying either of them or any high value early Canada or Provinces, my advice is to stay away from eBay and other "regular" online sales venues. Get them from a reputable auction house like Eastern in New Brunswick or a reputable dealer IN Canada. David Giles has good contacts and so do I, one of which I think I gave you but if not, pm me.
The few times I've gone with eBay, I found a few good sellers for my DDR and I "tried them out" first with relatively low priced year sets. I managed to find two excellent dealers in the former DDR and went on from there to complete my collection privately (at a lot less than they were asking on eBay because they knew they had a committed buyer) and they gave me reputable dealers for my Berlin. When I eventually have some dough saved up, I'll go with them to finish up my Berlin collection. These guys were totally honest and since I wanted absolutely perfect issues with no creases or pulled perfs, I contacted them when I came across something that didn't meet my standards, scanned it to show it to them and the one fella replaced them and told me just to sell or trade the ones that didn't meet my standards and the other fella sent me replacements and told me just to post the others back when I received the replacements. That's how they won my trust but I was very careful to test the waters first.
I've been burned by a few people and experience has taught me a lot about testing your seller.
I have a set of used 1897 Queen Victoria jubilee stamps scott 50 to and including scott 60. I acquired a scott 61($1) with a flaw and a scott 64($4) with a pulled perf. I am wondering if they add to the value of my set or if I wasted a few dollars. The mint will never be a part of my set unless I win a lottery. Perhaps they are of no value....Any thoughts ?
