Sales, Swaps, Auction & Approvals/Auction Disc. : A suggestion to dealers

I often look at notifications about new approval and auction listings, but only occasionally do I bother to actually look at the listings themselves. The reason? The extra steps necessary to do a search. Sometimes, even a search is fruitless because, apparently, the dealers haven't actually uploaded the lots.

My suggestion: How about including a link in your listing notifications? Seems like good business to me!

Bob,

IF you look under the picture (I forget what they call it) to the left of the verbiage the word "approvals" or "auctions" appears in bold. That links to the list of books or auctions offered. Just discovered that a couple of weeks ago.

If that wasn't the question I apologize, a bit bleary eyed tonight.

Yep,

I think all sellers would see an increase in their sales if this was done.

Its a little tricky to do the first time but once done - Not that hard and very beneficial to all (I think)

I'm not sure where that idea first came from but I had to ask another seller how to do it.

I think there are three of us that do it that way.

re: A suggestion to dealers

The easiest way for someone to search for another's auction and/or approval items is as Carol stated.

Ian, directly under your picture (left side of the screen, are the words "AUCTION" and "APPROVALS". When either of those appear, that means that that person has auctions and/or approvals currently listed for sale. Clicking on either of those two words will take you directly to that person's offerings.

With both auctions and approvals everything that is new will have "NEW" next to the listing.

If you want to create a direct link to your new approval book (say to the first page) in your new book announcement, simply go to the first page of your book, copy the URL from your browser, paste it in your message and activate it like so:

https://stamporama.com/approvals/approvals_main.php?action=30&id=RA4EXe.Jd2w1I&pg=1&view=Y

If you want, you can edit the link to be explicit to where it goes by editing the link after the comma where it repeats. Delete everything AFTER the comma up to but NOT including the close link HTML code. Then replace the deleted text with anything you want to identify the approval book like this:

Book #9304: POLAND mostly Used and CTO 1981 - 1992

Both links above are exactly the same, and take you to the first page of this approval book. All I did was copy your book title, did a block and replace into the link, removed the commas from the title wording, and there it is.

You can click on the PREVIEW button (you should actually do this), to see if you get an error message. If not, click on the link you created to make sure it goes to where you want. If so, and you're satisfied, click on your browser BACK arrow and then click on SUBMIT MESSAGE.

You can do the same with new auctions if you want, but clicking on the AUCTION link takes anyone directly to the auction list with the new auctions listed on top, so that's probably extra work that I don't think is necessary to do. But, that 's up to each person to decide. I hope this was helpful.

You're welcome.

Just for grins, here is the link to your Poland book's title page of which I had examples of links to the first page above. As I stated in an example in a different thread, I think it better to link to the title page so that potential buyers see your title page with your terms and conditions.

https://stamporama.com/approvals/approvals_main.php?action=1&id=RA4EXe.Jd2w1I

Here it is edited to display the link as the title to the approval book. (You may want to stop using commas in your titles so you won't have to fix the link when doing it this way.):

When there is limited character space, or punctuation marks react the wrong way to a computer program, the old English teachers will just have to cringe in pain, grin and bear it!

Taking out the commas from a title still makes much more sense than most of the texting "shorthand".

The Auction-Approval links are found with the Avatars in the Discussions. But oddly not when you go to the Mambers page.

Would it not be great to add them there as well? I've had to search through Discussions to find those links! Seems wasteful.

Thanks.

re: A suggestion to dealers

Dave, that it true. It is a bit difficult to find a specific person who is selling stamps when outside of the auction/approvals area. The "Auction - Approvals" indicators found at the bottom of a person's avatar in the Discussion Boards is the easiest way outside of the search mentioned by Carol.

I wasn't here when that programming was created, but it is quite possible that this was done intentionally to reward those who participated in the philatelic discussions by showing in their posts that they were also selling stamps.

If I'm correct, that was an interesting idea. It follows the thought process of other sites more in line with the non-commercial nature of Stamporama. Some of those sites require someone to participate in the discussion forums, by posting a minimum number times in the discussions before being allowed to sell.
