Anglophile is correct.
I received the same answer from the head post office in Melbourne ,after I complained about the "extra" cancels on some of my incoming mail.Thing is they are very inconsistent!!!.

Most of the mail I get from Canada has the stamps uncancelled by either Canada Post or the US Postal Service.
frankly, any PO that actually uses a postal device to cancel a stamp, regardless of origin, is OK in my book

I agree and hope that fifty years from now some collectors will pore over a Malta stamp, wondering where City Annex Florida was as it will be all under six feet of sea water by then. I bet someone could create an interesting about submerged cities for a show competition.
Looks better then a sharpie!
I'm confused, once again. For the past few weeks our local P.O. has been cancelling incoming UNCANCELLED mail from foreign countries. Please see the one that came in today from Malta. Why would they do this? I'd ask them, but they don't answer their phone(s). If you go there in person, you very soon regret the experience. Thank you.
