I am studying the "Independence" postal stationary of Indonesia during the period 1945-49. Only postcards were used during the Republic period 1945-49, some were original like the one i displayed, others were Dutch and Japanese cards modified slightly. Its difficult for me to imagine postcards only..i mean the purpose of letters is privacy. Anyway i started out collecting the early airmail flights from the Dutch Indies to the Netherlands. I have airmail covers from 1922, 5 years before Lindburgh flew the Atlantic the Dutch planes were hopping from the East Indies to Netherlands. Only logical i guess..its a long boat ride.
