If I run a Google search on "Philatelic research associates", including the quotes, I get several hits. Seems to have been active in the 1970s. What makes you suspicious?
Thank you. That is interesting, without the quotation marks, I got no hits. I posted the full letter in the Asia section. Basically what it says makes no sense because there was no 35 sen handstamp as far as I know.
The USPS recommends some of their publications with regard to philatelic research.

"BIBLIOGRAPHY OF PHILATELIC PERIODICALS" by Brian J. Birch (www.fipliterature.org/boip.PDF) reports that
"In 2012, ... Philatelic Research Associates sales leaflets and pricelists were digitized and made freely available as a PDF on the Ryukyu Philatelic Specialists Society website: http://ryukyustamps.org/."
Thank you Joseph.
Has anyone ever heard of or have information about this company? I can find no information about them and the story in the letter doesn't make any sense.
