"Sorry it just isn't worth it to scan"
That's ridiculous....
...why would you tell a potential buyer, "Hey, this isn't worth any extra effort to make a sale"....?
He must be rich and just doing this for the fun of it.....(yeah, right)
I realize there is a learning curve when it comes to making good scans (or taking good photos), and then actually doing the work is time consuming, but I don't understand individuals (in the absence of disabilities, etc.) trying to sell stamps without a scan or photo.
If I don't think a stamp is worth scanning, then it's not worth selling and is donated to the local club for the kids' benefit or goes in the trash.
Even low value stamps are often worth scanning and selling, not for a profit, but as a means of contributing to the hobby in the form of options and opportunities for collectors trying to fill album spaces.
There are still a few dinosaurs out there, still living in the old days. After I joined the Postmark Collectors Club, I received a mail bid sale listing from a dealer. It must've been 50 pages of tiny shrunken text, but no photos! Probably cost the guy a few dollars to print and mail each one.
I dunno, but in this Internet age I'm not buying anything I haven't seen. When buying covers for unique cancels, there are good cancels and then there are really bad ones!
Doug,
If there are SOR members that you feel you need to block/not bid on perhaps a note to the auctioneer or to me privately if you'd like, to review what's getting in the way of an enjoyable trading experience here.
Best,
Dan C.
Doug...I truly apologize...I will promise to send you scans of any stamps I send your way...
Thank you Dan, for interjecting here and attempting to (hopefully!) resolve any situation
Doug is having with sellers here - we certainly want this to be addressed and resolved!
I need to clarify about sellers on SOR, they all have scans of stamps they are selling and if I ask for a better scan they supply without questions.
The seller on SOR that I will not buy from have charged a fee that was not mentioned in the listing or they will not take paypal or they do not list their shipping cost because they say it is complicated and when asked you still do not get a straight answer.
Also those sellers that charge an extra fee for every stamp you purchase.
As for hidden fees I do report them to the auctioneer.
Doug: Just like you, I will not buy stamps unless they have a scan, a reasonable shipping fee, and NO extra per item cost. The people who add a 10c, 15c or even 25c per stamp are basically cheating other sellers by giving the impression their cost is low, when it is not...especially for low valued stamps.
There are a few exceptions. I have been buying at what I consider fairly low prices from a seller who does not scan stamps under $1. But he has no problem with returns, and charges a mere 50c for shipping. He has very significant stock and only once in many years of buying from him have I had a defective stamp (which he immediately refunded, never asking for it to be returned).
If more buyers told sellers why they are not buying from them (the extra charge is one major objection for me), or even why they do, (apart from the stamps of course) maybe we would see a change on some of the commercial sites.
On Hipstamp for example, I have compiled a list of dealers I will not buy from for the above reasons, and I always look first at Shipping before any further effort.
rrr...
On another stamp site, I asked the seller for scan of a stamp.
His reply was
"Sorry it just isn't worth it to scan"
