Just to let everyone know about a new effort in the US to found a National Airmail Museum in Ft. Wayne, Indiana: National Airmail Museum.

Wow, that's great. But seems like an odd (and out of the way) place to have it. Also, from looking at the website, seems to be more focused on the planes, etc. rather than postal history or stamps...but maybe I'm mistaken.

It's a good thing anyway, worldwide airmail stamps is only of my areas of collecting interests.

Museums tend to be built local to the people who started them. That's why the International Model Car Builders Museum is in a suburb of Salt Lake City. The founder just happened to live there!

Well, the 1918 Airmail route did not pass too, too far North of Fort Wayne...

-Paul

PS, Fort Wayne is home to some truly amazing museums, including the A-C-D. (Auburn Cord Deusenberg). That alone is worth a 200-mile diversion from your scheduled itinerary!

Did you know that, at one time there were more than ONE HUNDRED automobile manufacturers in Indiana? (A Golden Hawk to who can name the most famous of those!).

That's my impression, too, Chris. I'm hoping that the museum will develop more along the lines of airmail postal history if given the right input from an advisory board, etc.
