I've found that most mail from foreign countries from our overseas sellers are packaged quite securely. If face a few make me wish I had a hand grenade to use to open the wrapping and levels of sub-wrapping. A few sellers sending a couple of minimal (and probably easily replaced) use simple security measures for local domestic mail and I've not had any losses in many years from them.
As a member, Dave you can enter the member's area and using the search procedure easily satisfy yourself whether or not the abusive (Yes carelessness is abusive in several ways.) seller is a member. I doubt it as while many things are allowed sales and auction procedures are strictly enforced.
Meanwhile, welcome and good luck.
I would be quite frustrated as well.
"He charged $5 postage for this."
As Roseanne Rosannadanna would say " If it's not one thing it's another " The package has too much tape on it, or the package did not have enough tape on it.
The seller gave me an immediate refund, but isn't a member here. I won't bother him again ????
My patience has run thin, so I'm venting. If this seller is a member here, he may like to defend himself, however I won't name him. I bought three nice Australian items on Hipstamp. They arrived in a 1952 uprated stationery airmail envelope slathered with 6 Douglas Fairbanks 20c stamps (overlapping each other).
I've sent him this message:
I must advise that my mail from you arrived today. Sadly, the cover has split open in the mail, and the contents are, accordingly, lost.
I must say I'm very surprised that a 66 year old cover, somewhat flimsy, was used for my order.
The loss is $10, however I'll point out the following:
1. The 9d Kangaroo had a listed variety
2. The two postage dues had rare postmarks
I find items like this after hours of diligent searching, to bring them back to the hobby. My loss is inconsequential, but the loss of scarce items to the hobby is not.
I can't tell you how to run your business, but I can say that my sales go in a 102 card or part Hagner, in a glassine, in a plastic sleeve, with a stiffener, accompanied by a packing slip, in a brand new envelope. In 20 years, I've never had a loss.
Kind regards
Dave Sheridan

Truly, how hard is it to consider that you're posting an item half way around the world, in god-only-knows what weather???
