One of our members volunteers at a town recycling center and last night he came in with a grocery bag weighing about 20 pounds full of quarterly journals of the International Society of Portugese Philately. He thought some members might enjoy reading them...i was the only fool that bit..i really do enjoy reading about stamps..and there is so much to learn on the subject. Most of the ones i have looked at so far seem to be from the 1970s and 1980s. I have a ton of them available so if any one would care to have one..i would appreciate a buck (cash please) or $1.50 paypal from folks outside the USA to pay for my manila envelope and postage.

re: International Society of Portugese Fhilately

A very good publication. I was a member of ISPP for a few years at the turn of the century. I just did a quick search to see if a journal index or indexes had been published online. All I found was a paper copy of the 1962-1986 index for sale at HipStamp.

I'm no longer collecting. However, others might benefit if the journal indexes are available to search online for the issues you have.

Keesindy, thanks for the reply. i started reading the 1970s issues that were pretty basic with small print etc: by the 1990s with modern computers and technology the journal modernized quite a bit. I was surprised about the interest in collecting Portugal and colonies..the groups yearly auctions realized 75,000-80,000 dollars. I thought the Guatemala group i belong to had deep pockets with auctions of a few thousand dollars.

That is a lot of money. Seems like all the colonies are hot areas.

Apparently these guys in the Portugese study group take it very seriously, one year they had 140 members and several dealers in their club were making a living !

and it's funny that we had two Portuguese specialists in our area, and only one of them ever came to our club, the other either not knowing about the club or disdaining this rag tag lot

i see that Doc McNamera who was in charge when i joinned in the 1970s was a member of the Portugese Society in 1981 ! As a stamp dealer and our friendly medical examiner he must have belonged to many stamp orgs.

After browsing 20 or so issues of the journal of the I.S.P.P i decided to google them and see how the society is doing in this day and age. There appear to be alive and well but i see that their yearly gatherings are now in the United Kingdom and Portugal. I collect Portugal and Colonies only as a worldwide collector...i do not plan to join these specialists ..but there is much to learn from them.
