Just saw information about the Laurence Block books earlier this week and have been looking at the books on Amazon with the intent of perhaps starting on one because of the philatelic connection. Do you have an initial title recommendation? It is a bit difficult to tell from the advertisements on Amazon what the chronology is for the books that have been written (if in fact they tell a story that has continuity as a significant component).
I read the Ian Fleming books for James Bond when I first started college and they were mostly independent stories while Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan books definitely had a continuity element.
I like the inclusion of the philatelic elements in the books that have been mentioned and suspect it will definitely add a bit of spice to the stories as they intersect my stamp collecting avocation.

A quick Google search lists the Lawrence Block Hit Man books in order:
Hit Man .....written in 1998
Hit List. ....... In 2000
Hit Parade ..... In 2006
Hit and Run. ...... in 2008
Hit Me. ..... in 2012
Do not know if they have to be read in order.
I have read the first three for sure and enjoyed them. They are quick reads. I just picked up a short story anthology by Block at our local library book sale - many of his award winning stories are included.

All the Keller books are great but you should probably read them in order. The stamp collecting, if I remember right, starts at the end of the first book. His family starts a few books later, Some of the books are like collections of short stories connected by his job. He's basically a mild mannered hit person who is paid to eliminate people! A bit of advice where to buy books. I much prefer AbeBooks, quite often the books are less than $5 with shipping of only a couple dollars - much cheaper than a lot of used book stores. I use Amazon quite often though for DVD sets. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to recommend certain companies so this may never get posted. If I'm breaking any basic rules of StampoRama I am sorry and beg your forgiveness!

So do I, but the joke may be on us: Abebooks was bought by Amazon ages ago.
For whatever (I'm guessing commercial) reason(s), they've left it as a stand-alone brand; perhaps that was a requirement of the sale.

I know a car collector guy into Mustangs who named his daughter Shelby! Yea, they're out there!

There are many things I enjoy. Two of the items are stamp collecting and "murder mysteries". I recently discovered an author by the name of Laurence Block who wrote a series of books about a character by the name of Keller - a hit man who was also a stamp collector. One funny comment concerns the naming of his daughter. They decided to call her Jenny ( not Jennifer ) after the "inverted Jenny" US air mail stamp. I thought that was probably taking a hobby to extremes but thought it was interesting!
