This agreement will make it more expensive to send mail to the US, but it does nothing to lower the rates of mail going out of the US. It sort of levels the playing field, especially with China.
In many ways it will be a shame for those living in countries like Thailand where I have spent most of my life. The cost of registering international mail has been going up for a while, but I suspect it will increase even more rapidly now. I had stopped selling books outside of Thailand for a couple of years, but now I will rethink my plans to put stamps up on SoR. Without the safety net of registration there are far too many places for mail to go missing. (I'm not arguing the rights or wrongs of the US case, just the effects.)
I agree with Michael. We have been subsidizing the costs to import from China which is completely unfair to USA businesses.
