Three types of Navigator collector packs were issued prior to the introduction of decimal currency exist.

1. Simplified pre-decimal: Pack includes the 7/6d, 10/-, £1 and £2 Specimens. All lower denominations, from the 5/- to the ½d were lightly cancelled-to-order. The £2 has the overprint at bottom right.

2. Full issue of pre-decimal stamps: Pack includes the 7/6d, 10/-, £1 and £2 Specimens. All lower denominations, from the 5/- to the ½d were lightly cancelled-to-order. Including a full set of cancelled-to-order Australian Antarctic Territory and Cocos (Keeling) Island stamps. . The £2 has the overprint at bottom right.

3. Full issue of pre-decimal stamps: Pack includes the 7/6d, 10/-, £1 and £2 Specimens. All lower denominations, from the 5/- to the ½d were lightly cancelled-to-order. Including a full set of cancelled-to-order Australian Antarctic Territory and Cocos (Keeling) Island stamps. . The £2 has the overprint at near central position (pictured).

The earliest known issue of the collector’s set is about April 1965, only 10 months prior to decimalisation. Not many were made, and not all were sold, packs left at the Post Office were destroyed, and the packs that survived in collections some were pulled apart and the specimens sold separately, and how do I know, the £2 with the near central position overprint can only be obtained in the last collector’s pack, I have one other stamp with that particular overprint, and that stamp is on its own (pictured).

The collector’s pack with the near central position £2 overprint is rare and seldom seen until now.

Hi Horamakhet

I feel the same way when I see stamps I would like to have but cannot because someone beat me to it.

It is indeed a lovely collection and hopefully I will eventually find the other two. And it is something for the books for me to have CTOs in my collection, I do not collect CTO stamps, but in this case it is the exception of the norm as it is part of the pack which contributes to it's rarity.

I know of 6 such packs for sale, a very rare find within itself.

Rob

Hi cdj1122

Dare! Dare!

The price fits the rarity, they sell for around $1,250, I can find out the exact price tomorrow if you want me to, and I will give you the contact details.

The £2 with the near central position overprint is rare and very few exist, having one in the original set is a bonus.

Thanks, but that is close enough, or perhaps far enough beyond what I'd cover.

I spoke to Andy and he said they are worth $1200, they are pricey. I normally do not collect collector's packs as they are not worth very much, but when it comes to pre-decimal packs, especially the £2 specimen in near central position I had to get one.

I didn't know there were three types, but there is, one collector's pack has just Australian stamps with the normal specimen at the bottom right corner, and the other with the Cocos (Keeling) Islands stamps and the specimen with the normal specimen at the bottom right corner.

The latter two cost far less than the rare one. I'll be looking for the others but it seems they are not easy to locate.
