Discussion - Member to Member Sales - Research Center
I started by being a lot more active on line and actively bid on a number of items (much more than average), but as time passes I find myself much less interested in the auctions or sales of the various on-line stamp platforms and much more occupied with organizing, beautifying and wantlist updating my collection as it stands. Even spending time organizing the duplicates!
Moreover, I think I am spending overall significantly less time on the hobby.
I also halted readying new Approval books for sale (I had a dozen or so ready to activate) and I now only look at the Auctions and Approvals of a handful of sellers on SOR, instead of perusing pretty much all of the listings daily.
Wonder how the rest of you have reacted, as time passes, and also how much of an impact it may have had on sellers?
Have you noticed any patterns in activity change or pricing?

Could it be that one is spending more time with "She who must be obeyed"?
Mine had to close her shop on 23rd March and is pacing the floor in frustration and dragging me out for a daily walk! (Her Britannic Majesty's Government allows us out once a day for exercise as long as we stay 2 metres away from other folks)
I also have slowed down the production of Approval Books and Auction Lots and spending more time reading, listening to music, or old Radio Comedy Shows and watching past games of the NRL (Australian Rugby League). Thank Goodness for You Tube.

Hi all,
I have been working from home during CV and have A LOT of meetings (normal in my job).
I find myself "playing with my stamps" WAY more then ever before!
Mostly because my home "work desk" sits right next to all my stamps on my "stamp desk"!
Works out pretty great to be honest!

I'm a school teacher by day and we're on hiatus.
I'm also single father to three girls (11-year-old twins and a 9-year old). So we've been doing work to keep them up for their school. Completing packets and the like. As well as going for lots of walks, playing games, and the like.
I also have a small farm? Large garden? - It's about one acre. I've been busy prepping that as well as starting to get the pool ready for summer.
But philatelically, I've simply been updating my albums, moving stuff from glassines to the albums, that sort of thing. It's been good time for me.

If anything it is less. Activity at work (even though working from home) has picked up since one co-worker is out (not related to virus) and in a key planning phase.
I do not have any material to sort (not ready to start a new country) so I have been looking on ebay for more collections for existing countries. So, I read back issues of Gibbons Stamp Monthly and enter missing stamp entries in Stamp Manage (added almost 7000 entries now).

I kind of feel less enthusiastic about both buying and selling stamps. I still spend about the same amount of time organizing stamps, but as spring rolls in, I tend to be more outdoors.
It feels like a general depression is taking hold of our hobby like it did to all other aspects of life.
You can imagine that with 25%-40% unemployed, people will be more concerned with putting their Employment Insurance claims in , than browsing through stamp listings.

I am all in on this quarantine thing !! My business is mobile so have still be very busy there. However, with the lack of other activities and or civic demands ( service clubs, church, fund raisers, chamber of commerce events ect) I have WAY MORE time to be in my stamp loft ! It has been fantastic !!! I have gotten so much cleaned up and organized. I am an advanced collector and exhibitor and I even went back in time and soaked some modern US stuff and other misc material last week. LOL ... I have worked on updating data, made new pages for Ohio DPO collection, worked on exhibit pages... I could ramble on and on ! Having more fun than allowed by law. I could handle this for at least another month :-)

My collecting habits have not changed, because my work situation has not changed;
I have continued to work full time as an auto mechanic.
However, I am the ONLY one working - our other 2 mechanics have been laid off.
We have enough work to keep me busy all day.

I am still working--I'm an essential worker so nothing has changed except less traffic to/from work. It's stressful (I oversee multiple homes for people with disabilities and I do everything from make sure all houses have supplies, oversee staff, oversee health of individuals, track staff health during this time, work directly with individuals when staff call out, train managers and staff, payroll, evaluations, supervisions, hiring etc.) With the Covid-19 virus there are more safety precautions in place and expanded reporting requirements among other things so my responsibilities have increased. I also spend part of each day as a mental health counselor for staff and individuals which is not part of my job description but people on the front lines are getting stressed, and the individuals--many of who already have mental health issues--are having a tough time understanding why they are stuck in the house (most of my individuals have an intellectual disability).
When I get home, I find that the concentration I have for stamps is limited--I'd rather read a mindless mystery or watch a movie. When I do work on stamps I tend to buy single stamps and sets instead of buying large lots to sort through. It's very concrete and takes less concentration. In the past I did a combination of both. When this passes I hope to take some time off and relax and sort through some large lots that I still have to get through. On the plus side, I added a couple high value stamps (including a Cape of Good Hope triangle) that I may not have added otherwise.

My hobby has lost out to expanding elder care time (we put the home health aide on paid leave from Thu/12/March), and much more news reading/watching than is good for anyone, and many more long phone calls to shut-ins, recluses, and relatives.
During the past year, during the aide's hours, I settled into a pattern of going out for lunch or dinner or coffee with a hobby magazine or journal ... but that's gone, and the pile is growing again.
Cash is piling-up nicely - saving all that money on meals out and bourses - but there's little joy in that as, after all, I'd already decided that I'd rather spend that money on meals out and bourses.
The trees are getting their leaves, as they do this time of year 'round here.
Don't know if that will make things better or worse.

Curious how your habits have changed over the past few weeks.
