funny, I only counted 1
Lovely airmail cover, Phil.
David
That's about how many covers I have in my Minnesota Postal History collection.
I had thought about counting the covers in my New Jersey town collection. I also wanted to scan the covers I have not so far. Everything I acquired since getting serious a few years ago was scanned as received, but much of the original collection has not. But I’ve had little motivation in lockdown.
My counts? From my spreadsheet I currently have 941 unique towns and varieties (5 more on their way via eBay) of 2212 recorded possible for completion of 42.5%
There are probably over 2000 covers and cards in my ten binders with multiple covers from many towns.
Tom, thats an ambitious project you have ..its amazing if i draw a 6 mile circle around my home...the number of post offices that no longer exist..to name a few Upper Red Hook, Barrytown,Clermont,Madelin has been renamed Tivoli ! Postal history.
and, Phil, in those 6 miles, if you find those PMs, they go dearly. I remember bidding on an upper red hook PM..... it went for $225, which, as you know, is just a tad outta my range
Thanks Phil!
As you said indicated there are a lot less post offices today than there were in past years. It’s interesting to see old names and realize that there’ was once a post office somewhere there.
" At what point/year do you consider a cover postal history ?"
Phil,
legal use of a parcel post on a PC paying the short-time post-war 2c PC rate, later rescinded (for the second time), from a dead PO.
so is Blue Store (or Stone) a place, town, or what? It's north of us, in columbia county, but I stymied google. Our area is lousy with blue stone.
anyway, brilliant cover
David, Blue stores is about 8 or 9 miles North of Red Hook on route 9 ..its about a mile and a half South of where i grew up ,used to walk down there to buy a soda at the little general store. The biggest landmark is what used be known as the Blue Stores Hotel which was mainly a working mans bar. I had many a 15 cent glass of beer there in the late 1950s and early 60s. The place had a fire a few years ago and is under repair..
Its HOT outside i decide to count my Guatemala postcards and covers..659 in 13 binders !
Might be 660 after Saturday s mail
Phil:
I have NY State precancels of Red Hook, Tarrytown, Fishkill, and a few others in your part of Mid-Hudson, NY.
David
DBSGiles , you force me to look at my precancel album. I have several Poughkeepsie and Kingston N.Y. precancels ...i could use a Red Hook precancel if you had one to spare that is not part of your collection.
I have three different ones. They are tough to find. Will keep looking for one for you, Phil.
