Typically I use my phone to take pictures. I was hoping to use my phone to create and set up auctions but it looks to be a little cumbersome. any thoughts?

re: Need a little Advice on Setting up Auctions

If you have scanner then I would suggest that would be easiest.
A lot of us use a free program called Irfanview as an editor, you can scan a whole vario, crop into individual items, resize to fit the image requirements for auction/approval, all with of a couple of keyboard clicks.
There are other programs that can be used, but personally I find Irfanview quite easy.
I'd set up a folder to hold all the images, creating a number system that is logical and simple. Save the original scan (high resolution) and then use a suffix to identify the images from this scan. Makes it easier to upload.
Try and crop out as much space as possible, you are wanting the focus on the stamp, it will also make the file size smaller.
Hopefully this helps, others will no doubt share their views/methods.

Most of the work on this site was done prior to the web going "mobile-optimzed", so it's not. I am afraid we are stuck with a desk-top orientation.

re: Need a little Advice on Setting up Auctions

Thanks for the replies! I do not have a scanner unfortunately. I did when I was selling on Ebay in the 1990s. At the moment I am looking to sell bulk lots of 100 stamps. I have a copy paper box filled to pull from. I added dropbox to my phone last night. very fast and easy to take the photos with my phone add them to drop box and I can immediately access them on my computer

By the way, I commend you guys for taking scans of inexpensive stamps. its time consuming

Also, looks like we are limited to 2 images on auctions. I was going to put up some year sets but I would not be able to image all the pages.

I use a digital camera for almost all of my images. You can click on the link below to see how the images look.

If you are offering a bulk lot, you do not have to show the entire lot in the auctions. Two images, being the maximum, are sufficient, along with a description of what you are offering.

You can provide more images of items in bulk lots if you use the free classified ads to sell.

re: Need a little Advice on Setting up Auctions

There are a number of free scanning programs for your phone. It simplifies the problems of distortion and focus and work quite well.
But a scanner is the way to go, and my latest printer/scanner (HP) works like a charm. Interface issues and archive storage issues are resolved by scanning to a USB drive and then plugging it in the computer.
About Irfanview, I love the program and would suggest that sellers spend the few extra seconds it takes to "Edit/crop" their images in order to get the largest possible image..by cropping out all the extra blank space. Some scans are too small for my failing eyes, and as a result I cannot look to fill any needs I may have.

Especially if you are scanning an album page and show the whole page in one image.

You have to reduce the number of pixels in the image ( otherwise the system will not accept the image ) thus reducing the size of the page and the stamps you wish to show.

re: Need a little Advice on Setting up Auctions

The most common reason for an image not uploading to the Stamporama server is because the size of the image is too large. Make sure that the image is no larger than 1400 by 1230 pixels.

To get a US letter size scan to be posted your dpi cannot be more than around 111 since max pixel with is around 950 pixels to maintain letter size size ratio. The vertical limit is really the restriction.

If you know how to compose an HTML image tag, you can embed other images in the description, since HTML is not excluded from your auction description, like it is here in the Discussion Board. But you will also have to have them accessible somewhere online.

If I ever get around to listing some auctions here again, you will see the technique in action.
