When I asked my Grandson if he'd written a letter lately he asked "What do you mean, a letter?".

In Thailand International Letter week has seen a stamp issue in October starting in 1960. Along with National Children's Day these were a regular staple. They were issued yearly at least until 2013 when my catalogue ends and I suspect right up until last year. (My collection stops at 1983 apart from the definitives.) Surely it can't be just Thailand that did this? Still letter writing has given way to email so it is a thing of the past.

Japan did it, too, and has regularly issued stamps on that occasion each year in October since 1958. On top of that, Japan Post has issued also stamps for a "Letter Writing Day" each year in July since 1979.
Deutsche Bundespost and Deutsche Post AG used to have machine cancels with the advertisement "Schreib mal wieder" ("Write again"), but these were applied all year round.

And the U.S. with Sc. 1805-1810, the National Letter writing Week issue. We might also include U.S. Sc. 1530-1537, the UPU issue of 1974 depicting paintings of letters, and people writing/reading letters and incorporating "Letters Mingle Souls" on some of the stamps.

I was just playing with some Thailand stamps and noticed their letter writing week stamps.Just curious if anyone is into that,perhaps writing a weekly letter. I am pretty certain mine would include a few stamps.
