I have a mint R6 on silk paper as well as a normal R6. Images above. Scott Catalog does not list a value for a mint revenue stamp. Any information appreciated. Sorry for my image loading prowess.

2020 Scott US Specialized Values
R6c (perforated) = 45 cents
R6d silk paper = $275.00
If the stamp you say is unused does not have gum, then it is considered to be used per Scott. If it has gum, then its value is higher, depending on the stamp. Years ago, I remember a dealer saying that an unused revenue stamp issued prior to 1898 has a catalog value double that of a used example.

Thanks Michael. No gum on back so I gues it is by definition "used". Any idea what happened to the Revenue stamp market as my Scott's 2010 Specialized Catalog values R6d at $250.00 for used copy?

My 2018 US Specialized says $275 for a used R6d!!
And to expand on what Michael referred to concerning no gum on back;
here's a quote from the same catalog - "Uncanceled first thru third revenue stamps without gum
are generally not considered unused by the marketplace because the vast majority
have been soaked or sweated from documents."

Sorry, I have to blame my cataracts on this one. I fixed the value for the R6d in my original reply. The amount I gave is the value for a different variety right above the stamp in question. Sorry about that.

Are there unscrupulous people out there that would try to "trap" a fine thread under a hinge to make it look like a silk stamp? The thread is not as blue as the article depicts. Since there is no gum anymore, if I soak this stamp to remove the hinge, should I anticipate any issues?

I would recommend a clear, cool bath but to my hobbyist eye I do not see any silk threads.
First issue silk threads are typically blue and quite small like Dan’s website describes in the link you provided above. After soaking, you might send Dan some scans and ask him for his opinion.

Have my answer. Thread no longer in paper after soaking. Accidental or on purpose? we'll never but shows relevance of the need for a blue thread color.
