Hi Horamakhet
I received these last week, when I get the time I will enlarge the varieties so they can easily seen. There is about 20 each that were printed this way so they are not easy to find.
My collection of Coronation stamps is slowly increasing though I am missing two that will complete the sets via the ACSC, the £1 MacCracken Specimen and the 5/- offset.
Rob
As promised I have re-submitted the display of the Coronation 10/- (10 shillings) varieties with the varieties shown in microscopic detail.
1. Regular Ash (left) and McCracken (right) overprint
2. Dropped last “E” of Ash overprint (Bottom bar of “E” touching lower shading line)
3. Small last “E” of Ash overprint
4. Small last “E” of McCracken overprint
These varieties are unlisted and will soon be sent to Dr. Geoffrey Kellow for inclusion in the next edition of the ACSC (Australian Commonwealth Specialists’ Catalogue).
Shown are 3 varieties, the dropped last “E” of “SPECIMEN” and the small last “E” of “SPECIMEN”. There is an Ash variety of the dropped “E” but I do not have that particular stamp in my collection of Coronation stamps at the moment.
A little history relating to the Coronation 10/- SPECIMEN; this overprint was first included in collector’s sets about August 1942. The overprint was made on blocks of 20 stamps; two printings were made totaling 16,720 stamps. A number of blocks exist, including at least two forms of 20. These multiples derive from complete sheets sold to the Miller Bros., Melbourne stamp dealers.
This means that 20 stamps of each variety exist in both the Ash and McCracken printings.
