I have had this receipt in an old cigar box "forever" . i never paid that much attention since it was not really a cover but today i took a second look and decided to add it to my Italian related collection. The tax stamps seem to be generic Africa Italiana and its 1949 and they still have a British Military Admin overprint..Image Not Found

re: New addition to my Italia collection

When i was in Southern Italy in 1960/61 1500 lira was chump change to an American..about $2.40 U.S. but it meant a lot more than that to an Italian. A bottle of beer or a coke or a shot of brandy was 100 lira in a bar...thats 15 bottles of beer for 1500 lira...i should know. At a $140.00 a month plus room and board i had more money than i knew what to do with. Some guys purchased Fiat 600 s.. and had gas ration cards so of course could buy gas much cheaper than an Italian.
