Stamp was issued following the British Mandate of a portion of German East Africa following World War I forming Tanganyika. First issued stamps were overprinted G.E.A. stamps for East Africa and Uganda Protectorates. This area is today a part of Tanzania.
Shortly after completing my first post I remembered an odd addition I had made to my International Junior 1930 copyright album of a mandated territory stamp for Tanganyika. After consulting the catalog realized that these stamps were part of the third group of stamps issued for the new Tanganyika mandate and added a second stamp to the Smithsonian album to highlight the change in designs and the use of the Mandated Territory of Tanganyika name. This stamp was issued in 1927 and the stamp is Scott #31 or SG #95. Amazingly I had a duplicate for this particular stamp!
Added 1 new stamp to bring me to 23 of 788 stamps.
On page 28 added 1 new stamp for Thrace from 1920, Scott #N16 or SG #46. This stamp was created by overprinting Bulgaria's 1919 issue. There are a wide variety of these overprinted issues with every direction conceivable for the overprint per the catalog.

This is a quite an interesting stamp for which the design definitely measures 19x22.5 mm and with perforations 10x10. Now if the perforations measured 11x11 it would truly be quite an interesting stamp! The centering of the design within the perforations is exceptional.
Added 1 new stamp to bring me to 32 of 788 stamps.

Updated last entry from Romania to the correct Albania for the country thanks to a note from a Stamporama member. Oops!
I added it to the album correctly but wrote the entry incorrectly as I was distracted by some new additions for Romania to my International albums. I can report that I have passed 4,000 stamps in the Part V album and am closing in on 34,000 stamps for my International 1840-1963 album set, just 96 stamps to go.

Added 1 new stamp to bring me to 44 of 788 stamps.
On page 13, added new stamp for Chile from 1920, Scott #143 and SG #157. Actually I am a bit suspicious of the Stanley Gibbons catalog # as the listed catalog number from the Colnect site is actually for Scott #127 and none is given for Scott #143. The two stamps seem to differ in the amount of shading present on the collar as the most distinguishing difference.
I think your stamp is SG 157.
I believe the two below are SG 135 (left) and SG 157a (right).
I'm afraid they're not great examples!
Could we see examples of some pages? Looks like a nice album.

Added 1 new stamp to bring me to 45 of 788 stamps.
On page 16, added new stamp for Venezuela from ?. This stamp showed up and is definitely from Venezuela but I am unable to identify it in the Scott catalog. Added for now since it is such a lovely stamp with great centering. "Instruccion" refers to Education but these issues do not appear to be listed in Scott. Any ideas?

Really enjoying this idea - how do you decide which stamp to choose. I sure I would dither over it for far too long! Do you think about what stamp is most appealing to you or is it by chance? I am curious to know
So far my selection depends on what appears as I look for items (or they are presented as options) when searching for my International album collection. At this point the stamps are primarily byproducts of that search rather than specific searches in themselves. I tend to have a preference for earlier issues from countries (and currently those stamps are those that have been showing up strangely enough).

Jerrel, I notice you have an obsession with counting - no insult intended. Are you either a Math teacher or a Mathematician? I an "a counter" as well and have always been told it's because I am a "math person" - part way through a PHD in math and a high school Math teacher for 34 years. I'm just curious of your math background, or if you are an exception. Most "math people" count almost everything, for example, I know there are 13 steps in my staircase going upstairs. In my want lists I keep track of the number of stamps I need to finish most countries. But I have never actually counted the number of stamps I have, maybe that's next!

JBaxter, This looks like a lot of fun! How many total pages are there? Thanks.
Ernie,
There are 132 pages in the album.
Harvey,
I completed a math major as an undergraduate although I took as many computer courses as math courses although no major was offered in computer science at that time. I later completed a master's degree in computer science and all of the course work for the Ph.D. program but never completed my dissertation due to family changes. Most of my professional life revolved around programming and later system management in business or education environments. I, also, taught about a dozen classes in the use of computer applications and in programming at the college level over my career.
I have always been interested in numbers and quantification. One daughter carries on my interests in math and science by teaching middle school math in Atlanta, Georgia at a private school there. She completed a master's degree in teaching at the University of Louisville to get teaching credentials and taught in the city schools in Louisville, Kentucky as well before transitioning to a new school in Atlanta.
I have seen some really interesting topical collections targeting math, computers, or science on stamps during stamp show exhibits.
Jerrel - I never had a family to try to pass mathematics on to, but as a teacher I had a math club where all the high school math nerds would meet and play for a few hours once a week. We also competed in the Nova Scotia Math League for several years and won the provincial championship a few times. I always enjoyed playing with math and managed to pass that on to a few special kids who became mathematicians, computer scientists or engineers. One actually ended up meeting and working for several of the major hot shots in Silicon Valley. I figured with all the numbers you produce you must have had a background in a field connected to math. Math nerds really should stand out in a crowd!!
Does anyone else out there have a similar background - just curious?
I had been for the Single Specimen World Gazetteer Stamp Album but have not seen any on ebay.

This stamps represents one of the four rarest stamps required for the Smithsonian Stamp for Every Country album. This stamp may have the barest tinge of a cancel near the top of the stamp plus has no gum band and shows a slight hinge mark stain on the reverse. It was acquired from a local collector who had acquired it in London many years ago along with a mint copy which included a Royal Philatelic Society certificate. That copy is the SG 1 where this one is SG 1b issue. Generally I would recommend using one of several countries stamp on stamp issues in the album as an alternative for this stamp as even used this is quite an expensive stamp. It is, also, frequently found counterfeited.
Added 1 new stamp to bring me to 82 of 788 stamps.
On page 12, added new stamp for Trinidad and Tobago - British Colony from 1941, Scott #54 or SG #249b.

This stamp is a stamp on stamp issued in 1943 as part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the first stamps being issued in Switzerland by the Zurich Canton. The original stamps would be VERY expensive.

Jerrel - I am missing two stamps on my first page of the Minkus Poland album, #1 and #15. I really hope your #1 is genuine! I've hesitated spending money for #1 because I have read about the huge number of fakes out there. And a lot of them seem to have a nicely centered concentric circles post mark. Are you going to have your copy certified or are you fairly sure it's OK? I wish it were in my collection! It would be nice to finish that first page and I'm pretty sure I'll eventually get #15. I've bid a couple times and they've gone a bit too high! Best of luck!!
I just checked my album and noticed that when my wife entered values back in 1973 (ish) the value she entered for #1 was $1.40. If she was right, that stamp has taken a huge jump. Does anyone out there have a 1972 Scott's catalog who could check the price for me?
Poland #1 in Scott catalog for 1971 is $275.00 mint and $100.00 used. In Scott catalog for 1975 it had changed to $300.00 mint and $110.00 used. In Scott catalog for 1944 it was $25.00 mint and $9.00 used. In Scott catalog for 2021 it is $2,400 mint and $600 used!
Given that the stamp was actually purchased originally by the local collector at Stanley Gibbons in London along with the aforementioned mint copy I am fairly sure it is genuine.
Thanks Jerrel, obviously my wife made a mistake - she sure didn't do that very often! Congratulations on finding #1. If you ever get a chance for another one with good provenance please let me know. I would pay a fair price if I could be fairly sure it is real. I've seen a few for sale with certificates and the seller usually is totally out to lunch!
Added 1 new stamp to bring me to 86 of 788 stamps.
On page 100, added new stamp for Turkey in Asia from 1922, Scott #83a (for pair) or SG #A84. This is an unusual example of the Scott #83 which is present here as a vertical pair which is imperforate between the stamps.
Another stamp from every country thread. I have been collecting mine but stored on Vario pages until I can settle on pages.
Just FYI, the Batum stamp way up on top of this thread is most likely a forgery.
Since I had so much fun building a collection based on the Smithsonian Stamp for Every Country Album I have decided to try again with it. So far I have printed off a copy of the album and added it to an available 3-ring padded binder with dust case acquired from a local stamp store. I printed the album on some rather spectacular looking 8.5x11 paper with gold edging acquired from Paper Direct.

On page 50 added one new stamp for Tanganyika - British Mandate from 1922, Scott #9 or SG #73.

On page 13, added new stamp for Chile from 1920, Scott #143 and SG #157. Actually I am a bit suspicious of the Stanley Gibbons catalog # as the listed catalog number from the Colnect site is actually for Scott #127 and none is given for Scott #143. The two stamps seem to differ in the amount of shading present on the collar as the most distinguishing difference.
re: Smithsonian Stamp Album
I think your stamp is SG 157.
I believe the two below are SG 135 (left) and SG 157a (right).
I'm afraid they're not great examples!

re: Smithsonian Stamp Album
Really enjoying this idea - how do you decide which stamp to choose. I sure I would dither over it for far too long! Do you think about what stamp is most appealing to you or is it by chance? I am curious to know
re: Smithsonian Stamp Album

But I have never actually counted the number of stamps I have, maybe that's next!

re: Smithsonian Stamp Album
Harvey,
I completed a math major as an undergraduate although I took as many computer courses as math courses although no major was offered in computer science at that time.
I have seen some really interesting topical collections targeting math, computers, or science on stamps during stamp show exhibits.
re: Smithsonian Stamp Album

This stamp is a stamp on stamp issued in 1943 as part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the first stamps being issued in Switzerland by the Zurich Canton. The original stamps would be VERY expensive.

re: Smithsonian Stamp Album
Does anyone out there have a 1972 Scott's catalog who could check the price for me?
re: Smithsonian Stamp Album
Poland #1 in Scott catalog for 1971 is $275.00 mint and $100.00 used. In Scott catalog for 1975 it had changed to $300.00 mint and $110.00 used. In Scott catalog for 1944 it was $25.00 mint and $9.00 used. In Scott catalog for 2021 it is $2,400 mint and $600 used!
Given that the stamp was actually purchased originally by the local collector at Stanley Gibbons in London along with the aforementioned mint copy I am fairly sure it is genuine.
re: Smithsonian Stamp Album
Thanks Jerrel, obviously my wife made a mistake - she sure didn't do that very often! Congratulations on finding #1. If you ever get a chance for another one with good provenance please let me know. I would pay a fair price if I could be fairly sure it is real. I've seen a few for sale with certificates and the seller usually is totally out to lunch!

On page 100, added new stamp for Turkey in Asia from 1922, Scott #83a (for pair) or SG #A84. This is an unusual example of the Scott #83 which is present here as a vertical pair which is imperforate between the stamps.
re: Smithsonian Stamp Album
Another stamp from every country thread. I have been collecting mine but stored on Vario pages until I can settle on pages.
re: Smithsonian Stamp Album
Just FYI, the Batum stamp way up on top of this thread is most likely a forgery.
