I like you, Dave but .......
The best I can do is say that somewhere in this wide world,
odds are,
considering the many millions of stamp collectors there are,
there must be at least one small cabal of Glue Stick
affectionadoes wondering "What adhesive backing?"
Sorry but.........

Why else would Hawid make a glue pen?

You made my day!
I constantly run into albums where the mounts were hinged into place. Hopefully it was because they wanted to be able to remove the mount at some point as the glue on the mounts is definitely permanent. By chance today I was cleaning stamps out of a Minkus United Nations album and every mount used was put in place with stamp hinges!
Could be that many people do not trust the glue on the mounts (if there is any). Happened with stamps, too. There were some issues with dextrin gum that was so easily soluble that sometimes all of it ended on your tongue, and the stamp wouldn't stick any more; others were so sparsely gummed (in the era of synthetic gum already) that it was hardly worth moistening it at all. If people had used office glue instead, fine. If not, and they used all-purpose glue, good luck to the poor sod of a collector who tries to soak the stamps ...
I use a glue stick with standard mounts because I can apply the glue stick to paper and attach mount without dealing with moistening the adhesive on the mounts. The glue stick attached mounts can usually be removed later if needed usually without damaging the printed page. The adhesive in the glue stick is closer to "3M Post It note" adhesive.
The glue on the black mounts (Yes, I know it's there!) can be very annoying. Sometimes the mounts are easily removed, sometimes not. I really don't know why the difference! I made a bit of a mess once. I collect Russia but for some reason I put some stamps from Georgia (I think!) in Scott's International and noticed later they were in the back of my Minkus Russia album. When I moved the stamps a couple of the mounts came out but the rest didn't. Maybe I used various amounts of saliva. Anyway, it left a bit of a mess! Also there are some black mounts that do have a rubbery backing without adhesive that need to be put in with glue or hinges unless you replace them, which I usually do. And don't worry Dave, if that's the stupidest thing you ever do you are very lucky indeed!!!
Curoius.....
what brands of glue stick(s) do you all use?
I use Elmer's Craft Bond Repositionable Glue stick. It is labeled as acid free, photo safe, and non-toxic but who knows. I just use it for attaching mounts to paper.
Thanks!
Anyone else?
I’ve come across stamps glued stuck to the mount. Apparently someone with a big tongue licked the back too enthusiastically and got some DNA inside the mount!
The quote is from a phrase my wife uses at least twice a day. So where do the stamp mounts come in?
Well, for the past 5-6 years I have been using a glue stick to attach the black-backed stamp mounts to my Steiner Pages. Then, a few months ago - and 4 glue sticks later - my buddy Mel sent me some extra mounts he had, which he described as “seconds”.
After spilling a coffee on them recently while trying to watch hockey and do stamps at the same time, I discovered why they were seconds - because they stuck together. I was furious, but then my wife pointed out, “they probably have an adhesive on them which you dampen and attach to the page - like your stamp hinges! Do you use a glue stick with those too?”
Please tell me I’m not the only person who didn't know this.
