I purchased this on Amazon. I have been very satisfied. It will also record images.
Plugable USB 2.0 Digital Microscope with Flexible Arm Observation Stand Compatible with Windows, Mac, Linux (2MP, 250x Magnification)
I have a Celectron microscope. Takes small pictures. Works well enough, but my iPhone does a so much better job of it. It astounded me! I just need to jury-rig a stable platform to place the phone on and raise & lower it to meet my needs. Check out your phone, if it's a newer model, it may be the best thing since sliced bread!

Thank you for your comments. Interestingly, Susan was looking at the Plugable 2.0 Digital Microscope before I asked you guys for suggestions. We'll see if anyone has any other comments, but she will probably order that one.

I have a Celestron (one with built in display) and works reasonably well. The built in display so stand alone use (not attached to computer) was an important criteria for me.
My primary complaint with the unit is regarding the automatic image brightness control. That is, as you adjust the LED brightness, the camera (most of these are just video cameras) adjusts the image brightness. At lower brightness levels, you will see more video noise as the camera sensor adjusts for low brightness (increasing sensitivity).
I have that Celestro, and she can have for postage! It's just sitting here. I can't find the CD that came with it, if I do I can add it. But the software is online at their website.

My wife, Susan, decided to buy the Plugable USB microscope. It arrived only a couple of days later. She’s very pleased with it. Thanks to all for your recommendations.

This may not be the best thread for my question, but I'm sure that most members will see it.
I am writing on behalf of my non-collector wife, Susan, who is interested in buying a digital microscope to use for examining flowers, insects, spiders, feathers, etc. Since stamps in terms of size and detail aren't much different than the subjects she's interested in, I thought that StampoRama members who have bought a digital microscope might be able to recommend a model.
She is hoping for a USB version, not wireless with its attendant connection problems, and one that doesn't take up a lot of space on her small desk.
