The buyers are idiots, or attempted cheats.
I had not sold anything on eBay until recently. I posted a few items in the mid $20 range that had not sold on Stamporama. I sold 5 items to 5 different buyers. 2 of them allegedly did not receive the stamps and wanted refunds - 1 to Canada and 1 to the US.
In all the years I have been selling on Stamporama, I have never had an envelope go missing. However, on eBay I lost 40% in 1 month!!!!
Needless to say I pulled the rest of my eBay listings and tend to agree with bigcreekdad about the cheating aspect.
My wife and I sold on E-Bay about 20 years ago - no problems what-so-ever. Nothing ever got lost or showed up damaged. We had problems after a few years when they claimed someone was trying to access our credit card and they needed all kinds of ID before they would allow us to continue. We decided to get out! I have several friends selling on E-Bay now and most of them are having major problems with scammers saying items have not arrived or arrived damaged. All I can say is thank God I am out!!!
"All I can say is thank God I am out!!!"
As must be obvious to active SoR members I have been buying
by mail for many years, and for a few years (1973 - '85, running
a friendly approval group as well as trading. with partners.
Losses and problems to or from professional dealers and dedicated
collectors over a 60 year span have been a small fraction of 1%,
a number approaching zero.
Of course, that is ruling out the old Iron Curtain areas and some
countries, " ..... somewhere east of Suez,
where the best is like the worst ....."
Early on, as the use of the internet and personal computers
became so easily available I ceased using E-bay except when I
needed a scan to use to illustrate a comment.
There were and till are simply too many sellers of questionable
character.
A sailor's meme; "..... It's safer to stand clear of 'Rocks and Shoals',
than to try to negotiate them later. ...." as the skipper of the
SS Costa Concordia soon learned.
Back to the original question...
When someone makes an offer, the clearly shows the postage as a separate line....
So the other question is... did you enter the postage amount in your "Shipping Policies" or just say something in the text within the listing? If the "Shipping" line in the listing is blank, eBay won't add a shipping amount to the invoice.
