Thank you, Stamporama, from the Stamps for the Wounded volunteers on our efforts on behalf of the charity.

John Hotchner sent the following on behalf of SFTW

“ To our Donors
We are grateful for the many people who save and donate stamps and other necessary tools for our Program in support of our Veterans. These outpatient servicemen and servicewomen use the materials for stamp collecting and sometimes in art projects; successful recreational therapies which productively occupy their time, their eyes, their hands, and above all, their minds. We assure you that all philatelic material you contribute will be used for purposes related to our charitable function as described above. We thank you on behalf of all those who will ultimately benefit from your generosity.
- The all-volunteer Stamps For The Wounded working group; Rob Jenson, President ”

And Rob followed up with the following news about the charity:

“Thank you so much for organizing a project on Stamporama to send stamps to Stamps for the Wounded (SFTW). I have been aware of Stamporama as a 'virtual stamp club' for a while. I was thinking of joining, in order to increase awareness of SFTW, as well as to participate as a stamp collector. Having time to participate is always the tricky part. Happy

I wanted to let you know that our brochure that you linked to in the discussion thread is a bit outdated. We are in the process of reviewing and revising the brochure, but it will take a some time to get the new one produced and distributed. Our web site has more recent information, but it is far from complete ... there is a lot more information that we want to provide to stamp donors ... both those who clip stamps for us from mail, and also for collectors like yourself who want to send us stamps from your collections. The former has been partially written, and can be found here:

https://www.stampsforthewounded.org/donate/saving-stamps-for-sftw/

The other page needs to be written from scratch, to include some tips that will help us provide useful material to our veterans who are collectors (beginners to advanced). For example:

If you accumulate your duplicates / triplicates / etc. in glassines by individual catalog number ... if you are willing to do a little bit of extra work before sending them to us, please make up packets of different stamps that we can throw into a veteran's box to give him/her some variety, instead of sending them all separated in glassines that will give each veteran dozens of copies of the same stamps instead of a broad variety of stamps. This can be done by "dealing" stamps from each packet of the same stamp into stacks that will then each go into a separate envelope that will hopefully end up in different veteran's boxes. Packets can be all stamps from the same country, or any mixtures that you would like to create (e.g., "Scandinavia" / topical mixtures / period mixtures ...

A couple of other thoughts to consider sharing with Stamporama members who want to help us out:

We are always looking for more veterans to receive stamps from us ... whether they are brand new collectors or interested in trying out a new hobby, or if they are experienced collectors who like to sort through "mystery boxes" to find things to add to their collections. Any U.S. veteran is eligible to receive stamps from us. The web page for any veteran who is interested in joining the program is here:

https://www.stampsforthewounded.org/for-veterans/

We are also always in need of volunteers in this area who would like to help us fulfill our mission. We are a small band of volunteers who are based in Vienna, Virginia ... a suburb of Washington DC. If there are Stamporama members who live in "the DMV" (District / Maryland / Virginia) who might be interested in helping us in person, please have them contact us. We have plenty of work to do, and it all involves stamps or other philatelic materials.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you, again, for your interest in helping us to help our veterans through stamp collecting!

Best regards,

Rob Jenson”

Please note that I’ll do as he suggested in regards to combining the glassines so that similar issues are not all clumped together.

IF YOU ARE A USA VETERAN - please note that you qualify for services! You gave up years of your life to serve us, you certainly are deserving of the occasional bag of stamps to sort through!

THANK YOU to all of our Stamporama folks for supporting this worthy stamp charity! And additional thanks to our members who are not in the USA for graciously letting this small little bit of Stamporama be dedicated to a USA charity without complaint.
