I can still send money by using PayPal directly, and just did so. It doesn't seem to like the icon and have been having problems using PayPal on E-bay - maybe that's not a bad thing!!
Had the same problem this morning with the link from the invoice not working after it got to Paypal, so paid after logging in directly.
Possibly this is a consequence of the continued hacking as outlined by Tim in his latest email, just received.
I would suggest that everyone makes sure their antivirus and anti-malware programs are up to date, and switched on.

I have a suggestion for what we can do with this person if he/she is ever caught. Do you remember the scene from a James Bond movie where the girl is killed by painting her entire body with gold paint? I vote that the same thing be done here, but with stamps!!!!...
Most importantly I think is to make sure your password for Stamporama is unique to Stamporama and not used for other web sites, especially any financially related ones.
Thanks,
Josh
Josh,
Very good suggestion! Secure passwords are a good idea at anytime, but now particularly.

I changed my sor password
rrr
Tim;
Just a question about the hack. Can the hacker see what password I use to log in or change my password so what I am in effect locked out? I'm not in panic mode here.. just curious.
Larry
Would someone mind telling me how to change my password, please
Hi Larry,
No, the hacker doesn't have the ability to see your login password as you login. All passwords are stored in an encrypted format which would be very difficult to break. Very worst case the hacker could try to change your password which may stop you from logging in, in which case you would just contact me and I'd fix it for you. I have seen no evidence that this scenario would be a concern.
Thanks for raising the question. I'm sure there were many others that were wondering the same thing.
Regards ... Tim
Thank you for the explanation and thank you for all your hard work as always.
Larry

PayPal is still a damn disaster! I can't even access their Message Board to ask for help. Does anyone think it would help to re-register, I don't want to make things worse than they already are but I'm not sure if that's even possible. I got an actual phone call from them a few days ago, told them what the problem was and still nothing happened. I guess they don't want my service. I can use PayPal as long as I do it directly but that's not always possible. For some reason I can't even bid on E-Bay so it all must be connected! Could it have started here with our wonderful hacker? That doesn't really sound reasonable!
Have you called Ebay to find out why you can't bid? If you try to open another Paypal account in your name it might end up a bigger problem than you have now. Have you checked your emails from both Ebay and Paypal. Ebay has been sending out emails demanding more authentication from even long term users. The key is to call - emails can be pretty useless. A snail mail letter to their headquarters address irected to customer service might help (worked for me once).....
Can you acess your account by signing in?
If so check what bank account or Debit/credit card you have registered. Especially the cards expiry date(s).
I have found in the past that no transactions can be carried out if the expiry date has expired.

The cards not a problem, I just renewed it this year! Somehow the problem is with them. I have a couple automatic withdrawals set up that work fine and there is no problem do payments directly. It has me stumped!!!
Harvey - the card may be fine but if you did not go in and manually change the expiration date in your account with both Paypal and Ebay you will have the problem you are experiencing Neither will automatically update the expiration date for you 0- it is something you must do manually. If you just renewed your card and it has a new expiration date and you didn't manually go into your account and change it that is your problem in all likelihood. Ask me how I know

Trust me, the card is fine! I've been updating cards for a very long time! It was working, that card was working, and then it wasn't! I can use PayPal, with the same card, the long way, with no problem. Automatic things are removed, with the same card, with no problem. For some reason anything depending on an icon for activation will not work. On SOR, for example, the only way I can pay is by sending the money using your E-Mail on PayPal, the long way. It works fine that way but clicking on the PayPal icon will not! I think they're trying to figure it out, but no luck so far! I know all about changing cards over, again, trust me!!
I have a couple sites I buy from that are based on my card only, not PayPal, and they work fine. I haven't tried HipStamp for a while so I'm not sure about it, but I tried mycomicshop.com and Abebooks and Amazon, which are not based on PayPal, only my card, with no problem - YET!!
I don't want to do this yet, but I should be able to go into E-Bay and change the settings so it is based on my card rather than PayPal. And I guess I would have to be content in SOR with paying using the longer way rather than the PayPal icon. I think I'll wait a little while though! Is it even remotely possible that this mess was set in motion by our friendly neighbourhood hacker? I can't see how, but with today's tech anything is possible!
@Harvey,
I've looked into it and can see no evidence that anything has been hacked causing this problem. Unfortunately, I can't replicate the problem. I can't get it to not work.
Regards ... Tim.
Harvey, just a thought but do you have a pop-up blocker working on your system. The PP site always opens in such a manner when I click on the icon.

Just paid my dues and made a donation using PayPal as I normally would and it worked perfectly!! Has my problem fixed itself - I'll find out for sure the next time I try to buy something on E-Bay. I definitely have everything crossed that is crossable!!
Just an FYI, I just made an Ebay purchase paying via PayPal and it worked fine.
Tim.

PayPal seems to be working fine and I can buy on E-Bay as long as it is BIN. My problem is that when I try to bid on something nothing happens except for a circle going around, and around, and around, ...

"My problem is that when I try to bid on something nothing happens except for a circle going around, and around, and around, ..."

"Turned the ad blocker off (or "allowed" ebay)"
Your Browser top right, click on the 3 lines or whatever you have, then Settings, Extensions and undo adblocker.

I clicked on the three vertical dots, clicked on settings, and then... there was nothing that said "extensions"! I am a bit of a technological idiot but am not sure what to do next to get to "undo add blockers". I really don't want to randomly try stuff on my old computer in care I really screw things up!!
This is what I got when I hit extensions!! I'm not even sure if I should be showing all this!!

I may have missed it somewhere but what version of windows are you using??

A very old version - Windows 7 - home premium copyright 2009! That's probably part of the problem.
Harvey, if you are using Chrome then pop-ups permissions are found by clicking the 3 dots at top right, Go to settings, privacy and security, site settings, scroll to bottom of list to find pop-ups and redirects. click on arrow to amend.

I did all that and it said pop ups were allowed, isn't that what I want?
I tried paying for an order using PayPal yesterday, without success. My account is set up such that I am supposed to receive a text on my phone with a "soft token" code which I then enter into their website. I tried three times to get the code, no code showed up and I received no explanation. In fairness, this is the first time this has happened after scores of successful transactions. Perhaps they got a bug in their system?

Funny I went to pay for a lot last night and it came up with a red bar across the top saying at this time the transaction could not be completed or words to that effect,I had another to pay that went through no problems ,went back and tried the first one again and it also went througn ??? a clitch !!

Problems are back! Everything works great if the seller has an icon on his/her invoice, but if that isn't the case I can't get anywhere. It's probably my out of date browser! So if I buy from any of you not in Canada (I send E-transfers!), and you don't include a PayPal icon on your invoice, I'm afraid I'll either have to send cash at my own risk, or do a bank draft. I'm afraid this adds quite a bit of time since we have to wait on the mail service so if any of you would prefer not to sell to me in the future I will understand. I think I will have to bite the bullet and get a new computer, even though I really don't want to do that at this point!
Edit: If you accept PayPal it would be so much easier, for buyers, but maybe not for sellers, if you would have the PayPal icon on your invoice. But then, since I don't sell anymore, I have no idea how difficult that is to do. So maybe I should apologize for asking.
I just had a problem where the link on the invoice (to pay one of our awesome newlywed sellers in Canada) didn’t work. I sent a message to the seller asking for a paypal address and will pay manually so I won’t need any assistance, but just in case this is a systemic problem decided to document the glitch here.

The way my PayPal works, or not, is if the link is there it's fine. But as soon as I try to do it manually, or without the link, that's when I can't get it to work!

I finally took the plunge and updated my version of Chrome!! All my problems are now magically fixed - PayPal works perfectly and my bidding on E-Bay now works as well. I tested that by bidding on a small group of Ecuador official stamps. What finally made me realize I had to do something had nothing to do with stamps at all. There was some amazing material on a glass auction (Jeffrey S. Evans and Associates) that I really wanted to bid on but, even though I had bought from them before, the site wouldn't let me do the registration procedure. As soon as the update was finished registration was a breeze! I have no idea why all these problems were caused by not updating Chrome! Can anyone explain that to me?

"I have no idea why all these problems were caused by not updating Chrome! Can anyone explain that to me?"
Not really sure where to put this!! For the two of you who sent me invoices today you might have to wait a day or so. For some reason my PayPal is not working. Hopefully I can get it fixed ASAP. Sorry about that!!!
Joe
