Against UPU rules the US is banning mail to some countries, I've had mail returned to me from Russia and Belarus among other countries. I don't know exactly but there are quite a few I would guess.
Didn't know the UPU was not allowing letters to those countries you mentioned...probably because of Ukraine war.
My question was about putting up stamps for sale from countries like Cuba, North Korea, Iran which are under US sanctions.
Maybe someone can enlighten me. Thanks again, capetown
It must be OK on SoR since stamps from these countries are listed on a regular basis, especially Cuba. I get most of my Cuba stuff here rather than E-Bay where it is usually listed under The Caribbean. I think E-Bay is much more of a problem!
I had heard some used the terms Modern Persia for Iran to get around software checking for blocked terms.
Can someone send a letter to Russia occupied Ukraine? I saw a post somewhere that the region has already issued stamps. These may not be listed in Scott (not saying they need to be priced) for some time. Scott is just now catching up on the Trucial States that had no real postal use.
The banning of sales of stamps from these countries has really p'd off sellers all over the planet that use Ebay. It's a US embargo, yet we dealers elsewhere have to get creative.
Cuba - Spanish Caribbean, Hispanic Caribbean
N Korea - Korea, Korean
Iran - Persia, Modern Persia, Middle East
I think eBay rules are stricter than US law.
I can find modern Cuba and North Korea on Mystic's web site - just using them as an example as I think they are a big enough company where they would not be selling anything that is illegal under US law:

There are currently 6 embargoed nations - Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Sudan and Syria. Different countries may have different types of embargoes which affect trade differently. Please note penalties. Perhaps Mystic obtained a permit
Examples here are for Cuba- others used to be similar. Paypal accounts were defaulted by AI based on title - people had their account suspended for listing 19th century covers from Cuba, NY. If memory serves Paypal stated at the time that they were threatened by the US government - who knows , but having spent almost 20 years working for the government I am not going to test their resolve.
"The United States currently imposes a commercial, economic, and financial embargo against Cuba. The first embargo was placed on the sale of arms to Cuba in 1958 and was extended to all exports in 1962. Violations of the embargo are punishable by up to 10 years in prison, which some claim is too harsh of a punishment.

(1) Is of Cuban origin; or
(2) Is or has been located in or transported from or through Cuba; or
(3) Is made or derived in whole or in part of any article which is the growth, produce or manufacture of Cuba."
While I am not interested in post 1958 Cuban stamps out of respect to all of my Cuban-American friends here in South Florida, cancelled Cuban stamps, or any other, no longer benefit the regimes in question. The cancelled stamp is worthless for postal use, so should be considered differently.
I was in first and second grades during the Cuban missile crises. We had to bring bags of canned food to school and practiced hiding under the desks. We were also issued dog tags so that our bodies could be easily identified.
I am in total agreement, what needs to happen is for sanity to prevail and common sense exclusions added to the law. In the meantime ...........
Cuba does not make sense to me these days.
As for 1962, I just started first grade and Dad had gone to Germany (Army) and we were waiting in Mississippi to get us quarters to move. I do not remember anything about the crisis. but well aware of cold war when we were in Germany. We were issued dog tags. My stamp collection in Germany had many DDR stamps.
glad I brought up the topic...it seems there is a wide variety of discussion on this subject. Personally I don't think these type of sanctions work on hobby things like stamps which have no political or economical clout, especially if the stamps in question are used and have gone through the postal system.

Is it still against the law to sell stamps from countries like North Korea, Iran, Cuba...maybe a few others which someone can name. Thanks, capetown
