Volume!
They put up some nice stamps and let the market do what it does.

They're a company I buy from fairly regularly and usually not for $0.01. I appreciate the very sensible shipping! I think the volume of sales makes them do OK!
I have been banned from bidding there for having the nerve to advising them of lack of description on a stamp I bought.
It's good if the dealer describes the stamps the dealer sells corectly, but it's really the buyer responibilty to make the correct ID!
I've not heard of them, but I checked them out. Nice clear scans and some nice items!
I have purchased from them for a long time with no problems. I just received a couple of items last week.
1899....Pardon Moi, but if you selling something on line (vs in person) you should go to great lengths to describe, and properly identify, your wares.
As I've said I don't mind them.
They accidentally sent me a mint 6 cent Columbian instead of a $1.00 stamp.
I told them, and they said, JUST KEEP IT!
What!?
I mean that stamp is worth $50!
Just keep it?
Your thoughts guys?
A very happy Ari!
$50 to you, but it wasn't a $50 to the dealer for unknown reason!
True 1899, but it must have cost them something...
Either way though I needed that stamp mint!

I've wondered a few times whether I should try to replace my Columbian used with mint. Now it's about half and half! A couple years ago I had a chance to pick up the higher denominations mint through a seller here. It was pricey but fair and I've never regretted it!

Wow Harvey, wow!
Your collection continues to astonish me.
Definitely the right move to get them mint, especially the $5!
It will hold its value in the future.
Here's the 6 cent NY Stamps Sent me!

@PhilatelistMag20
Wow what an outstanding stamp. good job!
@Harvey,
Beautiful set of Columbians! 244 is one of my all time faves.
I've, also, had several very satisfactory purchases from NYSTAMPS but have had a temporary ban as well when I asked a question that seemed to cause someone there a problem. After a couple of weeks the ban was listed (caused me to miss an item I REALLY wanted though) and I have made a number of purchases with them since over the past few years. They have one of the largest groups of bidder followers on ebay and with many customers who use last second bids on items so if you really want an item you need to be prepared for some disappointments on bids. At the same time the breadth of material they can offer can be very motivating to search!
@1899
I know, and the best part...
It was free.
Sometimes the best things are free, haha!
A big addition for me to my Columbian Set for sure.

I believe they do a fair amount of consignment work.I don't know the split but I would not be surprised to find its 50-50. The seller just wants it sold. All the us i sell is consignment but i split 30-70 with owner getting the 70.
No need to keep money tied up in inventory when you sell consignment collections. One day I will have to consign with them or someone else as no one wants my business. That is still probably 6-10 years away.
Harvey, is that a $2 Trans-Mississippi in your Columbian set?

Here's my Mississippi set, it has a $2 Columbian in it. Since the pictures were taken these have been changed!!!!

The cattle in the storm stamp, IMHO, is one of the most beautiful stamps ever produced by any country!!! The Canada Bluenose stamp would be a close second. I bought many years ago, mid 1980's I think, a mint copy of the Bluenose and the Parliament building stamps. The stamps were nicely centered and the PB stamp is MNH but the Bluenose has a light hinge mark. I remember them as being quite expensive at the time. If I remember right, people were using stamps as investments at that time. Many investment portfolios at that time included stamps, that sure has changed!

@ Harvey, that $1 cattle in storm is stunning!
That, is a stamp I'd want in my collection.
If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pick it up for?
I don't have one yet but maybe it will be in my budget in the future...

It was about 2 years ago from a seller here. It is MLH and cost me $280 USD. It was a fair bit but well worth the $$$, one of the most beautiful stamps ever produced. The seller sold me the higher denominations mint for the Mississippi and Columbian series all at about 20% CV. It required a trip to my bank to get a bank draft, again no regrets!!

I'm intrigued by how NYStamps makes a profit. They typically start an Auction at $0.01 with .89 Shipping. Can anyone explain how they do this and stay in business. Thank you very much.
