3 ring binder compatible with option for hinged pages for those collectors favoring springback binders, heavy stock, rounded corners, availability of colored borders and design choices. Cream and parchment paper available. High quality binders and dust covers. Hingeless available.
White Ace comes close. old Scott Specialty albums are nice as well. It would also be nice to set a cutoff date for those only collecting 19th century or pre-40.
I can dream can't I.
Steiner pages are close to ideal due to standard letter size and print on demand. The font is a but boring. Combined with libreoffice to do modificatons and AlbumEasy to create from scratch I think it great. I never would have collected workload due to the cost of commercial albums. Most do not give spaces for varieties. You get to choose paper.
I mainly use Steiner pages, but agree with Al, they can be boring. I am a specialty collector, and so stock pages from Seiner (and I suspect other off the shelf albums) don't always have spaces for the stamps I collect. In that case I make my own using AlbumEasy, which I enjoy using.
I make up some from Steiner pages the rest in stockbooks.
I much prefer the Lindner Printed Albums for their Quality. You can add pages if you wish to add to the basics.
I have never bought one New.
I buy Mixed Boxes at auction and sometimes you get a Lidner album in a box. A couple of weeks ago I bought a box for £100 with 10 albums of which 2 were Linder albums, The Isle of Man, and Guernsey / Alderney. Both up to the 80's and partially filled with MNH. I was able to transfer from my stockbooks to fill the 2 albums.
Steiner pages are great but I find the spacing odd sometimes and I like to add additional text and also boxes for things like colour variations.
I convert the PDFs to PPT then customize them.
From various web sites it appears that the font is Helvetica, I guess size would be anything you wish.
The font for Steiner pages is Helvetica. The page heading (country name) is 12 pt. Headings over frames are 9 pt and descriptions inside frames are 6 pt.
The data was derived by PDF to LibreOffice Draw conversion and analyzed in Draw. Except for the "boldness" of lines, it matched when printed. I used this to reproduce in album easy software.
Margins to outside border
Left 23mm
Right 10mm
Top - 10mm
Bottom 12mm
Outer border line thickness - 0.67mm
Inside border line thickness - 0.12mm
Outside border - 183.3 x 257mm
Inside border - 181.3 x 255.4mm
Outside border to country baseline - 11mm
Country heading Helvetica - 12pt
Description line distance from country heading - 7.5mm
Description, year font - Helvetica 9 pt
Description baseline to year base line - 5mm
Note: Inter-character spacing is padded by about 0.4 pt
Distance from year baseline to top of closest vertically stamp box - 5mm
Horizontal Distance between stamp boxes - 4.25 mm
Vertical Distance between stamp boxes - 5mm
Stamp box line thickness: 0.16mm
Stamp box text: Helvetica 6pt
Spacing - stamp boxes usually allow ~2.5mm spacing on sides

With LibreOffice Draw you can make modifications to Steiner pages.
On the page below, I changed the fonts and add catalog and page numbers. I have added additional spaces as well. For example, I may break up a block and put additional spaces.

When you open the PDF in LibreOffice Draw it looks like this. Then you can edit text, add boxes, move boxes, etc. The only change is the inter character spacing is lost but you can do a select all and change it back.

If it were not for Steiner, I would not likely be collecting worldwide.

If you had a chance to create a new album what improvements would you make?
