Oh why not? Interestingly, I was getting ready to list a very nice mint (LH) Bluenose (#158) in my store. When I scanned it and blew it up, I noticed a dark line on the UL of the sail. Not the "man in the "mast, but I don't see it on the other copies I have on this stamp. Now you get it.
Welcome to the part of the hobby known as Fly Specking. It may not be the variety that would warrant a nice payday. Now it is the thrill of the chase to find another and then another.

United States of America, Scott number R154, Provisional Revenue Over Printed "I. R.". series 1898
Effective first day revenues were required, I July 1898
See scan
5 holes punched on line with One Cent (unknown origin?)
Condition: Space filler
Australia 1922 4d Milky Blue with "thick 4" at right

Nigerian postal forgeries of very dubious quality, used on the scam letters from the 1990's

GB 1970 Philympia 1/6d, with missing dot over the i in Printed

I was looking again at the mark on the sail of the Bluenose over my morning coffee. Upon another close look, I saw the numeral "2" on the sail of the other ship in the background. It dawned on me that the "mark" on the sail of the main ship was the numeral "1". I wondered if that "2" was on other copies I had. Sure enough, the "2" was on them. BUT......I also noted the "1" on them as well. How I didn't see that yesterday is beyond me. Heck, I hadn't even started drinking yet! So much for my new EFO "discovery". Don't get old.
The only question remaining, besides my sanity, is what the heck do those numerals represent? Where's my bourbon bottle?

A guess - this was probably from a race and that would have represented the Bluenose's race number! I could be wrong!!!
EDIT: If there are any history buffs out there I have a few articles saved from a local paper, The Liverpool Advance, from 1921 when the Bluenose was being built and undergoing trial runs. I can't load them here due to format issues but I can send them to you as attachments if you send me an e-mail. Let me know if you are interested!
