



Well,Führinger was at best a second class actress.
Wilhelm II (the illustration has very little similarity with the emperor),
sah Führinger in a peformance in 1891.
There is not the slightest clue,that there was any kind of
personal relationship between them.
When the emperor in 1899 was asked to choose a design
for a new defintive series of postage stamps,he had a look at them
and pointing to a picture of Führinger in a Germania-costume
and said: "Die".(german for "the" in feminine form)
His choice was not a bad one,as the Germania-series was and still is
probably the most popular one of Germany ever.
Love these Monty Wedd illustrations. Kind of reminds me of the old Ripley's Believe it or Not comics.
