Wait would be my advice.....
As one of the letters that need to be sent is for you, I will follow your advice!

This strike might last quite a while!! Please don't post stamps until it is over!!
I mentioned in another post that I bought a couple really nice Dead Letter Office covers and got in touch with the seller who said he'd hold them for a while. Before the day was out I was informed they were shipped. It's hard to say how carefully delayed mail will be treated!! I'm really going to cut down on spending until this strike ends!
in that case I will not bother you with an invoice yet.
Since last September 2nd, I've sent five envelopes to Canada, and everything has arrived safely; this was one of them.

it appears you were lucky. As far as I am aware, the strike began on the day that letter was delivered.
In Canada, the present (2025 October) cost to mail an ordinary letter (under 30 grams) anywhere in the country is $1.24, if one buys stamps (plural) in a booklet or coil.
Buying such stamps from Canada Post through its website, or posting letters at any post office or box is presently not possible, due to the “labour disruption”.
While investigating other options, in a visit to the local agent for the courier companies, I was quoted three options to send a single envelope with two sheets of paper, from Ottawa to Thunder Bay, both within the Province of Ontario.
The options, rounded to the nearest dollar:
by express (air): $152.
by Purolator ground courier: $76.
by FedEx ground courier: $54.
I am weighing the options — as all of them are very, very heavy!
By way of answer to the original question, the postal strike (begun September 25, 2025) will have continued for two weeks as of tomorrow (October 8, 2025). There is now very little by way of report in the mainstream media, so one could say “no news”. It was reported last week that the latest new offer from the management was for less than the previous offer, so one could say that the two sides are now further apart than when the strike began, which was preceded by a mandate from the government to the postal corporation to reduce or eliminate home delivery of mail and lengthen delivery standards, with a view to reducing the growing deficits for what is at present an unaffordable and unsustainable enterprise.
Unless there is a major change, mail is simply not moving, and may not for some time.
How does this happen?
USPS is cheaper, and we get it to our door.
Starting to feel spoiled by the 78c rate...

@Jan-simon, chances are that until the strike is called off your postal service will not accept any mail for Canada.

I just received notice from a US seller here that he had just sent a shipment to me. If this is right then the US post office is definitely accepting mail to Canada. I also had a seller on E-Bay ship a lot to me yesterday even though he said he would wait. I really hope someone takes care of this material when it reaches Canada!! This is going to be a long strike and I worry about the stuff that was sent since the strike started or was in the mail when it it started! Please hold onto any material you might have that is going to Canada!
"Starting to feel spoiled by the 78c rate..."
If there are much larger mail volumes in the States, this may allow them to have a lower letter rate.
In our situation with each strike action, a chunk of Canada Post's business is forever lost. A few years ago I would get most bills in the mail. They all had to switch to emails after a few of these shenanigans. We normally pay by cheque, now all vendors want electronic payments and this is also happening. When the process is complete nobody will need a PO Box at the Main Station - there goes another money maker.
As for things improving, what I hear is our federal service employees also went on strike. People can no longer renew their driver licenses and yesterday our alcohol stores were closed because nobody can supply booze to them any more.
Not sure how long this situation can last.

Hi the new today is that mail delivery will resume Saturday Oct 11, "on a limited basis" as the postal workers union will switch from a national strike, to rotating strikes. So some mail, but expect delays.
Larry

Good news, I guess, I've got a few items in limbo somewhere!! Maybe everyone should take a chance and send stuff out that they are holding onto!
Yesterday I received notification from my Post Office (Mexico) that envelopes cannot be sent to Canada until further notice.

Rodolfo - I'll be interesting to see if the rotating strikes makes them change their policy. Supposedly mail will start moving again with some delays, of course!
There's been no update from Australia Post, so services are still suspended
Harvey: In Mexico, this is the second time that shipments to Canada have been suspended. I suppose the service will be restored in a few days.
The Canada postal strike has certainly caused some problems for me. While it has evolved into rotating strikes, it has left me with a problem.
First, I don’t know if Royal Mail is now sending mail to Canada. I hope so! But that may not solve my problem.
My “other hobby” is building scale-models of aircraft and ships. I am currently working on a model of S.S. Titanic. The model comes with LED lights, but I don’t like the way they look — too many bright spots through the sections of portholes and windows, plus the fact that the light is bright white rather than warm white, which would be more realistic for a ship sailing in 1912, when incandescent bulbs were in use.
I found a company in England, Railway Scenics, which has LED strip lights which seem to be the perfect solution. About a week and a half ago I placed an order with them for two sets of the lights and some switches, about U.S. $40 total, and paid with PayPal. The next day I the payment was refunded, and an email from the company explained that they couldn’t ship my order by mail because of the Canada mail strike, nor could they send it by courier because it was “too small” for international shipment.
I sent an email asking how big the order had to be for courier delivery, but they have not responded to that email, or to a second one telling them that the full-scale strike had had changed to a rotating strike.
I’ve never heard of a rule saying that courier shipments could be “too small” to be accepted.
• Are any Stamporama members aware of such a rule?
• Have any Stamporama members ever dealt with Railway Scenics?
• Is Royal Post now accepting mail for Canada?

About the Canada postal strike:
Can someone explain to me why the Canadian government and the postal worker union have allowed the strike to happen (not to mention previous strikes)?
It has been obvious for years that postal services everywhere are being challenged by courier delivery services. It has been obvious for years that postal services everywhere are losing money. It has been obvious for years that endless, annual increases in postal rates are dong nothing to ensure the long-term health of postal systems. So...
Why haven't the people in charge of such things seen the writing on the wall and taken steps to ensure 1) prompt, safe delivery of mail and 2) good working conditions and reasonable pay for what may well have to be reduced numbers of postal workers. If I have to pay extravagantly high prices for groceries, why should postal workers believe they have the right to full employment in a struggling industry.
Except for a souvenir sheet issued in 2023, Iceland has not issued postage stamps since 2020. Personally, it wouldn't bother me if all countries stopped issuing postage stamps. And yes, I know that collectors buy new issues all the time. I do, occasionally. But if it came to exchanging pretty new stamps for fast, regular mail delivery, I'd give up the stamps in a second. Enough stamps have been issued in the last 185 years to keep in collecting heaven for many more years, assuming I have many more years to live (which I don't).

Royal Mail will NOT accept any mail for Canada at the moment.
This may not alter until the Canada Post strike is settled.
As far as why Postal Services are in a mess are down to two reasons.
1) Useless Management at the top. (The Horizon scandal proves the point)
2) Interfering dumb politicians. (They want first class service without paying for it because they live in their own wee fantasy world.)
(Unfortunately these two reasons apply to almost all the ills within a country)
Ian,
Odd, I hadn't heard of the Horizon scandal until a minute ago; as broad and deep as it was, it's insane I hadn't heard of it. For those, like the me of two minutes ago, who don't know: software that Royal Mail purchased in 1999 was incorrectly recording fiscal shortfalls in sub-post offices; some 800 or so sub-postmasters were then accused and PROSECUTED based on the inaccurate software data. It has since been found that the software, created by Fujitsu, was at fault, and all sorts of court filings are in play or have been settled.
Of course, the head of the company selling that software in Britain received a tasty increase, per The Times of London https://www.thetimes.com/business-money/ ...

I received a letter from Canada as well. It was mailed 24 September, 1 day before the strike began and it arrived yesterday. No idea if most of the handling took place before the strike...
I had an envelope mailed from Canada 6 days before the strike began. I still haven't received it.
Great news. I just received my envelope from Canada.
Hip! Hip! Hooray!!
Royal Mail is now accepting deliveries for Canada.
I've got an order from Canada which was mailed on September 27th and I'm still waiting.
According to my Postnl app, I will receive two letters from Canada today. One that has been on its way for quite a long time and one that was mailed the 19th, so that's just 6 days. Back to normal?
I hadn't checked, but Australia Post recommenced deliveries to Canada on 20 October
The Mexican Postal Service (SEPOMEX), has once again enabled service to Canada
It was in perfect condition!
Yesterday was a special day, with 4 letters from Canada arriving. Two had been on their way for quite some time, but yours and another one made the crossing in just over a week. That's pretty good.

Can any of our Canadian members give an update of the situation? Is it wise to put letters to Canada in the mail, or should I wait a bit longer?
