John... I still use a 'Stamplift' and it does, in fact, leave a lot of the original gum intact. One has to be very careful not to leave the stamps in the Stamplift for too long. And, as soon as taken out they need to be placed on a smooth plastic surface to dry. However, you are right it does considerably disturb the gum. Additionally, I found that the stamp is prone to curling... sometimes quite severely. Of course it only works on water-soluble gums. For the new fangled self-stick adhesives, I find it best to close-cut and leave the paper backing attached.

I know, I know.......I am certain this has been discussed to death. However, this is the first time in years I have been faced with this. When I was younger, I had the old "Stamplift", but I don't recall if using it removed the gum.
I'm suspecting that any method will remove or badly disturb gum. If so, I'll just soak them off with a bath.
Thought I'd see if there is any other method that leaves gum intact.
