I have a folder of notes and letters from friends with whom I bought, sold, traded and sometimes just chatted about stamps who hav closedtheir albums fornthe last time. They are from the days when people actually held a pen in their hand and took the time to write longhand.
Every so often, while looking for something else I accidentay open the folder and sometimes am stopped short in my search as I wander through the comments and asides for an hour or so. Nostalgia for a slower time.
Dear Kelly & CDJ,
I believe that you two have just identified the real treasures in our hobby. Thank you for that reminder.

....I feel the same way when I run across an item I have recieved in the past from our good friend and coil collector, Thomas....
....I still feel a void in that regard.
Having joined SOR in 2006, I never had the pleasure of knowing Jerry....but I'm sure the feelings are very similar.

Thinking of Tom, I was telling David the other day that I have become an avid collector of coils. Each time I see a coil it reminds me of Tom and I usually put a bid on it.

it looks like Tom Harley touched many of us. I traded often with Tom, always stuff for stuff. We never bothered with details.
He was trying to create a comprehensive geneology for me. I had put together a good number of the relationships gleaned from the many military cards and letter he sent me, but many of the relations weren't clear. I'll never know, for sure, but I have a rich trove of Harley correspondence that I plan to safeguard for the next quarter century.

The other day I was sorting through my stamp boxes and came across an envelope from a dear Stamporama friend that is no longer with us. I had opened the envelope when I received it and tucked it away in my "to do" list. What a surprise it was for me to find the envelope, letter enclosed and the last packet of stamps he had sent me about 10 years ago. I shed a few tears remembering him and our many conversations we had and how he ignited a spark in me that I never realised was there. It was that friend who taught me so much and once asked me if there was anything in particular (theme, country, etc) that really "grabbed" me. At the time I hadn't thought about it, I was just collecting world stamps and finding my niche. I have grown so much in my love of stamps. I have found my niche, the things that really tug at my heart and thanks to his advice many years ago, I am more in love with my collection than I ever had been prior to meeting him.
While still going through that same box, I found some early copies of the Rambler and smiled when I thought about how much our group has grown.
I'm thankful for Stamporama and the friends I've made over the years here and being able to re-connect with some of you lately has been a fantastic experience.
I think it's awesome that we are able to connect like this, I've never felt comfortable in physical stamp clubs because of communication issues and here we can meet people from across the world and share our passion for stamps together.
So, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone, especially Jerry who will always be with us.
Kelly
