Dear Terry:
I'm salivating.
I always find it interesting and instructive to see how other stamp collectors
display their stamps in albums and elsewhere.
Compared with me, you are a "pro". Most of my stamps are on graph paper,
with annotations in pencil (with lots of erasure evidence) reposing in binders
of varying vintage, sizes and condition.
My favourite album contains my Winston Churchill assembly:
found it in a small box of philatelic junk that cost me a buck;
the size and thickness of a "penny dreadful"; soft, spiral bound covers with
maybe two dozen pages; overflowing with unmounted stamps for which
there is no more room. Reluctant to transfer its content to a larger album
as a part of me will disappear with that old favourite. Spent an hour or so
looking through it only this morning, smelling Winston's cigar smoke,
listening to his oratory, marvelling at his determination to prevail.
It's wonderful what postage stamps can do for us.
Your airmails of Papua are like spring blossoms in a flourishing flower bed.
I very much enjoyed looking at them.
Sincerely,
John Derry
Terry, very nice!
Thought you may enjoy seeing those on covers. Not the Lakatoi.
Top cover is Registered and sent from Daru to Port Moresby. The cover features the 1938 Airmail set. 10, Sept 1938
Next cover is from Losuia to Port Moresby and features the 1939 Airmail set. 6, Sept 1939
Hi Tooler,
Love the covers. My initial though was to discount them as philatelic covers (please forgive me my bias), but the first cover is a registered air mail cover from from Daru to Port Moresby, which you pointed out. This is an interesting thing in itself as they are both in the same country and not really that far apart, and hence it is interesting that they need a registered airmail rate between two cities in the sames country. I guess things were very different back in 1938. What we consider very close today, back then was a world apart.
Regards ... Tim.
These are not Air Mail stamps but this cover was sent Air mail. I like the 1/ Roo small Multi,. It is hard to find on any cover, along with the 1932 9d Bi-Color Lakatoi that is rare on any cover.
These are the back stamps of the cover.
Apart from the Papuan airmails there are all the airmail overprints of New Guinea (north side of the island) so plenty more to collect.Good luck.
Sorry but I forgot to includes these two issues as well.
Very nice Kapul. I also collect these, mine are not complete, sorry to say.
I'm quite impressed Kapul, Soon I'll be buying complete sets of the early New Guinea airmail. That envelope with top and bottom stamps is remarkable.
Rob 1956 thanks for your kind words. I sometimes wish I had purchased complete sets of some of them.
Like a lot of collections you end up with gaps looking for that elusive stamp or two, and in my case it's the two and half penny non dated OS overprint used (see below). If any one has one please contact me.
A few more covers for you to enjoy.
Very nice Kapul. You need the 2 and one half, I need the 5/.
A few more OS. New Guinea 1925 Native Huts overprinted.
Tooler sorry I can't help you with the 5/-. Do you only collect mint? I have a few spare used huts overprinted airmail and some mint and used dated birds overprinted OS.
Thank you for the offer, I only need the 1£ in the Huts, Do you have one, CHEAP,
I collect used and mint.
Sorry but spares only go to 2/- huts airmail. Good luck with your search for the pound, took me ages to get mine.
Finally have the early airmail stamps of Papua completed in my worldwide airmail collection. The most difficult part was finding all of the different printings of the 1929-1930 issues. I am still missing the 3d Harrison printing of 1930. However, since only 80 of them are known to exist, I'm going to just call it good
