Oh, I keep saying this too, and then I find a stamp I need online. Winking

I have SO many stamps to go through that I have put aside from trades--I am FINALLY starting to go through the backlog and..for every one stamp I did not have, there are at least 5 new duplicates Sad (Oh well, more trading material--Hong Kong and Liechtenstein!)

Seriously, I think I am going to slow WAAAY down for a while re buying-at least until I can see what I have.

One thing I have gotten out of being here is to just enjoy the hobby a little more, and obsess a "little" less about replacing used copies with MNH ones.

Sounds familiar. I finally started organizing what I have and I'm actually making progress...of course I still get off track and buy things I see I would like to have on Ebay.

re: I will not buy...

Organizing is key! Back in 1990 I finally retired and found that I could actually work on my stamp stuff. Since I'm an accumulator there was quite a bit to go through and to get right. It turned out that I spent several hours each and every day for 1 full year getting my stuff into some kind of order. Looking back I spent as much time if not more at the hobby than I did at work!

Would you believe it, I'm still way behind fully organizing what I have added since then, although I no longer go at it like a crazy person! Somehow my kids and wife didn't desert me, and now my grandkids seem willing to allow me some playtime for myself as well.

I did discover that on many more than one occasion I duplicated high end stuff, which then brought me to selling on eBay. That lasted a bit, but I found a new club starting out and decided to spend my time with Jerry Aubern and haven't looked back since. That club was SOR, unnamed at the time, but a fun place to hang out.

I have no idea why I just rambled on so-who cares for this history? My apologies for taking up your time-somehow I thought it might be of interest-old age I guess!!
All good thoughts,
Dan C.

Dan,
Thank God for old age, without it most of us wouldn't be here, enjoying our wonderful hobby.

Maybe, back then, you were the inspiration for the "Rambler"! Rolling On The Floor Laughing Ramble on, my friend, ramble on!

I dunno. I've met Doug - a couple of times. He seemed rather sane to me, but then again the backdrop was his family (parents and sisters) at the HeartWalk. Now one of his sisters is nigh on certifiable! (just kidding, Doug)!

re: I will not buy...

I have been for years an accumulator of stamps with the idea being to buy large lots, take out for my collection and sell or trade the rest. The accumulation got so large, I finally decided to take a table and then two tables at a few - now 8 shows to get rid of some of the excess. My wife,a good and patient woman, thought this was a great idea until the first couple of shows where I consistently came back with more than I took. She sat down with me and pointed out that I wasn't getting the concept of "bring back less than you take." She reminded me of this several times and then gave up. I am now up to 30 Rubbermaid bins in the basement plus all of the stuff I am working on in my office. I can not possibly sort all of it before I die( I'm 71 and doubt I have twenty more years which probably isn't enough anyway) and just before I wrote this I put in a dozen bids in our auction. I am headed for a show on February 17 in Cedar Rapids and a dealer friend of mine has already called to say "wait until you see what I've got for you." It is a lost cause but it sure is fun!!
