I can't find anywhere that says the 2013 EID stamp was issued as a no die cut press sheet, but I purchased an imperf pair. Are there other unadvertised no die cut press sheets? How do I find this info. USPS.com under "Buy Stamps" and then Collectibles and then Press Sheets doesn't mention EID.

Lars - I am not aware of these, but imperforates have been around on almost every issue since time began. No reason they would not continue. I assume printers print before they perf, so there is always opportunity to find one not perfed. If no more surface you have a great find.

USPS is offering imperf press sheets on many of their stamps. Not all stamps go to press sheets; and not all press sheets include an imperf option. I called the cave and they walked me through the options. I bought a passel of them last year.... still wading through them, using them on mail

Open note to David

Thanks for the info on the diecuts-I was wondering about them along with Lars.

(For those who haven't pulled up the info at the bottom of David's note, do yourself a favor and do so. Well worth the time and the read.)

re: Unadvertised imperf (no die cut) press sheets

Sorry, perhaps I wasn't specific enough in my original post. I know that USPS has been offering press sheets without die cuts since the Major League Baseball Stars issue in 2012. I also know that I can find press sheets with, and sometimes without, die cuts both online at USPS.com and through the USA Philatelic Catalog. But nowhere was the EID stamp listed as available in a press sheet without die cuts.

David, you said you called "the cave". Is that different than the number in USA Philatelic (800-782-6724)? I have to call tomorrow anyway since the catalog number for the AVR "Flag For All Seasons" Booklet doesn't work. If there is another source for info, I would like to know about it. So far the green EID is the only one that I have discovered that was not advertised as available as a press sheet without die cuts, but clearly there is a flaw in my information stream!

Sorry, Lars, yes, i misunderstood. And, yes, that's the Kansas City fulfillment office of USPS. I seldom deal with them, but the fellow to whom I spoke was VERY helpful.

i ordered last year, so i don't have the number handy.

re: Unadvertised imperf (no die cut) press sheets

David,

I called 800 number to place an order and after talking to two agents, one of which had to check with a supervisor, I learned a few things:

The 800 number does NOT get you to the "cave" of which you referred. It's a pre-screening location that handles routine orders. You have to specifically ASK to be routed to "SFS in Kansas City" and they are only open from 8:10 am to 4:10 pm. The agent said Eastern Time, but KC is on Central Time, so I may be off by an hour.

I told the agent that I knew the 2013 EID issue was offered as a press sheet without die cuts and when I gave him the prefix (5840), he added the press sheet w/o die cuts suffix (08) and verified that, indeed, those were available. I checked USPS.com and it says that 584008 is an invalid catalog number. USPS.com ALSO says 688403 is an invalid number even though it is listed in the catalog, but the agent was able to verify that it is the correct number for the AVR booklet of A Flag for all Seasons.

The agents seem to have access to a better database than we do via USPS.com.

I plan to call "the cave" tomorrow and see if SOMEBODY can tell me if there are any other unadvertised press sheets without die cuts. This seems like a rather tedious process.

re: Unadvertised imperf (no die cut) press sheets

for all their efforts at PRODUCING stuff for collectors, USPS is abysmal at servicing them or actually catering to their needs. The stuff for collector retention is essentially non-available UNLESS you are willing to do the leg work. Damn silly way to go about things, but they feel justified, I guess, because, as they'll tell you, their job is to move the mail.

thanks for the updates on the ordering information, Lars. I still have several tubes full of 2012 imperf press sheets to use up, so I don't want more sitting around. I don't save them mint, but use them as real postage, something I"m sure would give USPS marketing folks the fits.

They should be told that their job is to move the mail, protect and generate revenue and maximize profits for their company, which includes providing great customer service (for customer retention) and selling products that are intended to boost revenues through non-intended use.

I doubt that, but it may give Scott fits if they have to at least assign a minor catalog number to them!

Really?!? Mail me a letter and I will gladly reply with imperf postage! All I require is that you tell me ONE interesting thing. It could be about you, your family, your dog, your town, your collection, or something you read. Send me a PM for my mailing address.

David,
You don't even have to mail me a letter. You can just put something interesting in an email (or a link to something interesting). Just send your mailing address and tell me if you want a hand cancel or if you want me to drop it in a box to get a machine cancel in Paducah. I will mail something related to philately that I think is interesting in an envelope with a modern imperf stamp as postage.
