Here's some more information about the use of the Departure Tax stamp:

http://i-ng.org/en/background-information/papua-new-guinea-postage-stamps/departure-tax/

The 3 varieties and an inverted overprint version are listed in the Barefoot revenue stamp catalogue.

I have seen quite a few of these. A number of countries use or have used Departure Tax Stamps. Most are quite attractive and with local themes. But, alas I have not been fortunate enough to find any for sale or trade. YET! Crying

I have one like the example shown and another with a different style overprint on the same stamp. Scott #530 was issued in 1981 I have had both for over 20 years, so the example is probably fairly common.

Absolutely beautiful, Roy! What better way to have a souvenir from a trip to PNG than an overprinted Bird stamp.
