Bob, did Rogers' store in Orlando close or is it still open? His eBay site is still active. I buy from there quite often.

Mike Rogers open to the public, store closed several years ago thus ending one of the last comfortable stores in Florid where an average collector could sit down and browse through books and books of stamps. Mike decide to concentrate on his auctions and especially stamps from the Far East.
It must be close to ten years, as I was still driving then and I quit about four or five years ago in respect for the safety of the other drivers who hog the road.
There was/is a similar shop in Port St Lucie where I felt comfortable and I spent, what to me, was a small fortune. Ah-ha, the name is/was Treasure Coast Stamps. But PSL is much to far from my home on Florida's West Coast.
I seem to recall a shop in Sarasota or nearby but that was a long time ago.
I spoke with Michael's employees recently and they told me the last public auction for MRI will be this Friday, July 18th. Michael has been trying to sell the business for awhile as he wants to concentrate on buying trips as well as spend more time in retirement. He will continue working for Kelleher in his new capacity. MRI also ran the auction at the FLOREX stamp show in December in Orlando. He has assured the show chairman that there will be an auction in support of the show but I do not know who will be running it.
I know the closing of the business will have a negative impact on the local collectors. Many would bring their collections to MRI and if it didn't meet enough value to go to auction, he would direct them to the local stamp club, Central Florida Stamp Club, of which I am currently the president. Michael has been a member of our club for many years and while he doesn't attend many meetings, he was always generous towards the club.
thanks for update ... i thought it unusual that MRI advertised for collections, then refused to lot/list as being too small ...

Hey! Bob! I was at the auction last Friday. were you there? I talked to someone who lives in Winter Park. Also my wife and I talked to Michael himself. He said they are going to find a new building and a new hotel/motel to have the auctions. So, I assume they are going to stay in Orlando. Will sure miss them, if not. Auctions are perhaps the most excitement I get all year.
I have read something somewhere about this in the last couple of weeks that said he is planning to relocate to south Florida.
(I'm sorry that I don't remember the source, or else I would link it.)
No, I was away on vacation, and I would have been working if I was here.
Michael Rogers/WPSS definitely has their mark on my collection, especially Hong Kong. Their mail sales listed some good material at what I consider to be extremely competitive opening bids.
It was a sad day when Winter Park Stamp Shop closed for me, and now this.
Well, he didn't say anything about where but there were 6 or 8 new fellas from Ft. Lauderdale at the auction. I could handle West Palm, I know a great fishing spot, there.
LOL.
As I live in the Orlando are not far from Winter Park, I was stunned to hear of Daniel Kelleher Auctions acquiring Michael Rogers Inc. Over the years, I have purchased many stamps from him, especially from Hong Kong, through his auctions and the WInter Park Stamp Shop. With this news, I am feeling somewhat bereft right now.
Details can be found in the most recent online edition of Linn's.
