I was just reading an article in this quarters El Quetzal about stamp engraver Arnoldo Chavarry and how he personalized his work ! He would always add something in the lower right hand corner..in the case of the Mayan Warrior stamps shown i hope it shows up..some call it a rock others a duck ! Although this cover is philatelic i am happy to have the complete set. Guatemala is very modest in their stamp output and only 30,000 of the 20 centavo high value were printed !Image Not Found

What were the poatal rates when this set was issued. With the 20 centavo being the high value, seems like the rates were low, and didn't call for many high value stamps. Any idea of how many were used? In one of my specilaities, some of the used stamps are valued higher than mint copies.

The set in question was issued in 1954.

Here are 3 airletters of 1951 I sold recently. All are franked with 5c plus 1c postal tax.

The airmail rate to New York or San Francisco was 5 centavos ..quite reasonable compared to rates say to Europe 30 centavos or Australia 60 centavos. So this was a philatelic cover sent to a dealer or collector. Two of Roys covers have postal tax stamp RA23 issued in 1949.
