I have a data DVD that I cannot get to work so I can read the data on it. I can play a regular DVD but cannot read this data DVD. Does anybody have any suggestions so I can get this to work? Any help is greatly appreciated. At Wits EndAt Wits End

re: Data DVD

Your problem has MANY potential possibilities.
1. Is the DVD single or dual layer
2. Is it clean or scratched
3. Can you see the discoloration where the data is on the disk
4. can you open it in another computer
5. Are you running an older version of windows
6. Do you have Norton antivirus installed
7. Is this a purchased DVD or did someone burn it - it may be formatted in such a way that your computer cannot read it
8. Is it a rewritable DVD

If all the above seem OK then first start your computer in safe mode (F8 at start) & see if you can view it. F8 different for win8 - we can go from there

re: Data DVD

Nelson- thanks for post. DVD was scratched. I had played a regular DVD on my computer and it worked so I am going to conclude the scratches are the reason it is not working. Thanks again.
