It is out of print with the publisher, Bird Bear Press. However their website lists some dealers who might still have copies. One of those dealers listed the book for $50 plus shipping.
Hi Nelson,
That is an interesting website. I'm quite interested in local mail like this. Do you have any idea what the charge was for carrying a letter from the island to the mainland?
Regards ... Tim.
I believe the field guide was updated and reissued.... I'll check tomorrow.
Nelson,
Thanks for the info on the rates. Very interesting. And thanks for sharing the great covers.
Regards ... Tim
Thankyou I drive past the bay and see Kaulbach Island in the distance on a regular road trip to Halifax or Chester . Never knew this bit of local history.
To the person who wanted to know the rate to Kaulbach Island. I have no idea where I got it from but I have a sheet of 9 cent bird stamps from 1974 overprinted "Boston Show 1974"
I seem to remember seeing a price on line that was quite low - about $10 I think. But I guess the postal rate to Kaulbach Island in 1974 was $0.09. Also the birds were great horned owl, blue jay, kingfisher, osprey, gold finch, chimney swift and sand piper.
Hi, LaFreniere's book, the 2nd edition, IS available and in print from Bird Bear Press: http://www.birdbearpress.com/store.php
I reviewed it years ago for Seal News when it first came out in its second edition. it's a remarkable achievement.
Kaulbach Island stamps are also listed in "Strike, Courier and Local Post of the Elizabethan Era" by Covert (2nd edition 1992).
Not counting special overprints, the values were 9¢ (1971); 18¢ (1972-1975); 25¢(1976-1979); 35¢ (1980-1984).

Hi,
There is the Field Guide to the Cinderella Stamps of Canada - Ronald G. Lafreniere (currently out of print). I think there may be another guide but am unable to locate it.
