This postage due stamp I picked up at the stamp club recently. The design is from the first series from the Netherlands and the Netherlands Indies but the colour is wrong, I think. So what is it? A proof or some kind of fake? Or...

The normal Netherlands Indies 15 cents should be orange on yellow. This looks more like the 20 cents in colour (green on blue paper).

Hi Jansimon,

If it is perf 14, then it is a Netherlands Indies proof.

Thanks Jan,
I think it is 14 line so that would fit your determination. Where did you find this, the NvPH does not say anything abiut proofs, as far as I could see.

Hi Jansimon,

My information is from "Catalogus van de Proeven van Nederland, Ned. Indie, Curacao, Suriname" by J.L. van Dieten. (My edition is dated 1966, there are newer editions available.)

It lists 12 colour proofs of this value: all possible combinations of blue, pale brown, lilac or black ink, with grey, orange, or green paper.
