I think you do have a trimmed stamp. For what reason this was done, I wouldn't know.
Looking at the edges, I would say that the stamp probably came from the upper right corner of the sheet, thus those straight edges. If you look at the left edge of the stamp (right side when face down), you can see a bowing of the cut indicating most likely a scissor cut. The bottom edge of the stamp doesn't have the bowing, but it does show an angled cut against the bottom frame line of the stamp. There is more paper below the frame line on the right side than there is on the left side.
AS Michael said at least two of the sides have been scissor cut. There were proofs of these made but it is highly unlikely for one to have been postally used. If however it is on very thin or card stock paper then it might be. There was no postal stationary etc which used this impression. There are several different shades of Ultra to be found.
Very little doubt it is anything other than a stamp that has been cut down.
Cut perforations, dag-nab-it.
It's not on thin paper or card stock, it seems to be the same paper as other examples I have. I'll keep it around as a color variant, it is a different shade then the others. I kinda like the cancel, too.
Thanks for the help guys,
WB
I'm not finding a listing for an imperf, no catalog for postal stationary, so I'm not sure if it was issued on stationary, and at least a couple of the margins seem a bit wide to have had the perf's trimmed. Can anyone help with a positive i.d.? Also, does anyone know how many color variations there are for these?
Thanks for any help,
WB
